If your motherboard already has a VGA port, you do not need an additional graphics card. However, depending upon what you plan to do with your computer you may want one. Some motherboards come with fairly low-end graphics chipsets so if you plan to do much gaming, 3-d graphics or the like, you may find the onboard video is insufficient. Well from what I looked at no. If you had a desktop tower it's always much easier to do. What processor do you have? If you have Intel I'm guessing you have an Intel HD 3000-5000. If that's correct then no, because that graphic card is built into the processor so no you cannot. If you have an NVIDIA or AMD it could be possibly replaced .

If you have an ATI video card, you do not need an NVIDIA driver. Ubuntu includes a "Restricted Drivers Manager" that will automatically download and install any proprietary drivers it detects your card needs.

This is a misnomer, for a built in or on board Graphics's Card. This is where Graphics's Card is built into the Main or Motherboard as a Graphics's controller chip and sharing the on board RAM. These are for entry level systems or Servers. If you want proper performance get a good Graphics's Card, you won't be glad you did until you see someone's system with out one.
