Where are the army soldiers located in Korea?

A lot of camps in the ROK have closed since I was there. Camp Casey, Camp Hovey, Camp Red Cloud, Yongsan Garrison, Camp Nimble, and Camp Jackson are certain to be active still. Camp Greaves (where I was at), Camp Giant, and Camp Garry Owen, further to the north, are among the camps which have been shut down and returned to control of the ROK Army.

Camp Bonifas and Camp Liberty Bell (two camps adjacent to each other) are located right on the DMZ, and house the United Nations Council Security Battalion, which was composed of both US and South Korean military personnel. Their activities are completely separate from those of the 2nd Infantry Division and Eight US Army in Korea.

In the year 1961, President Kennedy authorized the wear of the green beret for Special Forces soldiers. At the event that this happened, President Kennedy delivered a speech whereby he made the green beret a "mark of distinction in the trying times ahead." The Green Berets became a very real distinction of excellence among special forces at that very moment.

Is it possible to go trough navy seal or green beret training after quiting once?

not really, the way the services like to set it up is that if you quit, they wont invest any time or money in that person so sending them back through a try-out/training is very unusual.

Can you be a Green Beret and a Ranger in the US Army?

The Green Berets practice "unconventional warfare" in its many forms. The Green Berets are organized into elite commando units, each consisting of 12 members, which conduct stealth raids and ambushes. In addition to direct combat, Green Berets are trained for guerrilla war, sabotage, and subversion. An aspiring Green Beret must serve about three years in the Army before applying. From there, he enters a two-year long "pipeline" before being assigned to an operational group. Every Green Beret must learn to speak a foreign language.

The Army Rangers are light infantrymen that perform many of the same duties as the Green Berets raids, ambushes, and airfield seizures "by land, by sea, or by air." Any 18-year-old male may apply to the Rangers when enlisting. The specialized training takes one and a half to two years.

Can a soldier Wear a CIB with 1 star and an Airborne badge with 2 stars?

Yes, but there's not likely to be anyone serving currently qualified to wear those... Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) and Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn) were considered two fronts of the same campaign (the "Global War On Terror"), so, if you served in theatres, you were only ever eligible for one CIB/CAB/CMB. To be eligible for a CIB with a star, they'd have had to have served in a previous engagement where it was awarded, such as Somalia, Desert Storm, Panama, etc.... most anyone who served in those deployments is retired, although there probably still are some in the Army who were involved in one of those. As for the jump wings with the two stars, it denotes a combat jump... 173rd was awarded a mustard stain for jumping into Iraq in 2003, and, IIRC, 2nd Ranger Battalion got one for jumping into Khandahar in 2001... not very likely that someone served in both of those units within that time frame, or regressed from a Ranger batt. to a line brigade. The last combat jump before that was Panama in 1988 - prior to that, it was Grenada in 1983. The absolute youngest anyone can be to be eligible for two mustard stains on their jump wings is 34, if we look at the unlikely scenario of someone having been in 2nd Batt in 2001 and 173rd in 2003. The absolute youngest anyone could be to wear a CIB with a star would be 40. If you're seeing a twenty-something or thirty-something sporting both of these devices, you're probably looking at an imposter.

What martial arts do the green berets use?

The military does not utilize one specific martial art that exists outside of the military. The green berets will have undergone training in grappling as well as striking, disarming and other CQC (close quarters combat) techniques. Note that their training is not oriented towards winning tournaments, fighting with gloves, or just roughing up some guy at a bar - they are trained to kill, disable, submissify.

The closest single styles of martial arts to what the American military uses (at any given level) are Krav Maga and Sambo (which are related). Krav Maga is the martial art that was developed and is utilized by the Israeli military (standard and special forces). (Combat) Sambo is the martial art that was developed and is utilized by the Russian military (standard and special forces). There is also sport Sambo, which is obviously different.

What is the best defense of the military - green berets or navy seals?

Personnel of the Green Berets will make it very clear that the Green Berets are the best. They will probably say that they are the best at everything.

Unsurprisingly, the Navy SEALs are likely to say exactly the same. So will the British SAS and SBS. Ask the Marines for their opinion and they will say the same about their own service. There are many more just like these.

Each of them have certain roles to play, are remarkably well trained and all can rightly claim to be among the elite of the military. We are fortunate to have them as part of the Western free world and if I need military help, I would be glad to see any one of them coming to my aid.

Can air force enlisted men assigned to the army receive the combat infantry badge?

No, it's not an authorised Air Force award, and they wouldn't qualify for it anyhow, as the awarding of the CIB is pretty much restricted to infantry soldiers. The equivalent Air Force award is their own Combat Action Medal.

Will going to a senior military college help you become a green beret?

No. By the time you go in as an officer, you'll be required to make the rank of Captain.. at which point, everyone who got their commission when you did without the senior military college will also be Captains... either you make the cut for SFAS and the Q-Course or you don't... if you don't make the cut, the college you went to isn't going to cause them to pretend like you did make it.

What type of operations do green beret's execute?

Just about any kind of operation you can think of. Special Forces units can be tasked by the State Department as well as the Defense Department, so an SF soldier could find himself removing mines from an area that was a combat zone, performing medical care in Third World nations, or training soldiers from a country that recently became a democracy. It's a really good outfit. I just never liked pushups enough to join.
