How do you make lantern using recycled materials?

You can easily make a lantern from a used piece of paper. Turn it over to the blank side and draw a design if you wish. Then, fold it in half lengthwise, and make a series of slits about an inch apart across the fold. Then, unfold the piece of paper, and form a circle with the paper, this time holding it horizontally. Tape the circle closed, and fluff your slits so they are more pronounced and it is possible to see through them. Then, put your lantern aroud a light source.

Why do we need to recycle paper?

To prevent new trees from being cut down for the paper products made from recycled newspaper .
news papers is one o f the most distributed types of so called, 'junk mail'. many people just read the paper once and then chuck it in the bin. however, if we can recycle our newspaper, then we can cut down less trees; for our environment. trees are essential for our existence (they provide us with oxygen that we breathe with), therefore we rely on them. if we didn't have trees then we would've died out. recycling is when we reuse something; it's environmentally friendly :) . think of all the trees we could save if everyone recycled their newspapers!

What do you need to put in a worm farm?

Worms have small mouths and no teeth. Remember that when feeding. They will eat an apple core, but if you chop it up, or even blend it, they will eat it more quickly. If your dog had no teeth what would you feed him?

The most common problem with worm farms is over-feeding. Just give them small amounts till you see how much they can eat. And if you can blend or chop the food up with a little water so much the better.

Food the worms LIKE:

* Moistened, non-glossy newspaper * Egg cartons * Cardboard like pizza boxes * Vegetables, raw and cooked * Fruit (non-acidic) including the skins * Vacuum cleaner dust and hair * Tea leaves and tea bags * Coffee grounds (in moderation) * Avocado skins * Egg shells (crush them up first) * Cooked grains like rice and barley * Cooked food and leftovers (but not meat or fish) Food the worms DON'T LIKE:

* High protein foods (tofu)

* Animal products (fish, seafood, beef, chicken, dairy, egg yolk)

* Chilli * Large amounts of tomato * Uncooked onion and garlic * Bread * Uncooked rice and dried food * Any dry food (they like it moist)

* Acid fruits like citrus and pineapple * Rough garden clippings

A feeding tip is:

* Every time you add new food, place it in a new location, moving round the box. This way you can see how much of yesterday's food they have eaten and if you need to give more or less.

Remember, don't feed them too much. Too much food will just rot on the top and become a problem. Cover the food with a thick wet newspaper. The worms will always eat this if they run out of food, and you can see if they need more.
If you have worms in a worm farm, they will eat most household scraps, as well as hair and dust from the vacuum cleaner and pizza boxes that are too dirty to be recycled.

Probably don't give them:

  • Onions and orange peel.
  • Meat,
  • fish and
  • dog and cat droppings which can smell and attract other vermin.

Remember worming tablets for your dog and cat will kill your worms if they eat the animal droppings!

Why should you recycle aluminum cans?

== == We have limited natural resources, so we should not waste them. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours. It makes more sense to recycle them, and in some areas, the recycling center will pay you for them. Just think, help the environment and earn a couple of bucks! A win-win situation. Why is it important for detergents to be biodegradable?

It is important for items to be biodegradable if they are likely to end up in landfill (e.g. bin bags). This is because plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose and we have very limited landfill space.

The best method of disposal is re-use or recycling so biodegradable waste such as paper and card would be better off recycled or used in your compost bin. If waste is composted instead of discarded in landfill then this will reduce emissions of the greenhouse gas methane, which is produced from a landfill site when biodegredable waste decomposes.

What can be put on a compost heap?

Generally, it's kitchen scraps and yard waste that go into the compost pile. Kitchen scraps tend to include many items other than dairy products, greasy or oily foods, and meat products. Those three food groups tend to attract nuisance wildlife.

Yard waste may include brown carbon rich debris such as fallen branches and leaves. It also may include green nitrogen rich debris such as fresh grass clippings. But whether dead or alive, it's never a good idea to put in diseased plants or weeds. The diseased plants may contaminate the entire pile, and weed seeds may sprout.

What recycled material can you use to make tires with?

What are the disadvantages of recycling aluminum cans?

not really sure about this s don't take my word for it but.....

to recycle copper there are many processes it needs to go through (i wont go into detail), these processes require a lot of heat energy, many possibly harmful chemicals and once the copper is clean, it needs to be shipped across countries (which is bad for he environment)

hope that has helped

Can cereal boxes be used as organic mulch?

Yes, cereal boxes can be composted safely. It nevertheless is important to cut them down into tiny pieces since larger-sized items generally can be expected to take longer to break down than those of smaller sizes. There sometimes may be concerns over toxic colors seeping into recyclables in the process of decomposition but that most likely will not be a concern here.

What are the uses for recycled plastic and aluminum containers?

Plastic is recycled to make more plastic, either of the same quality (PET containers) or of a lower quality. Aluminium is recycled by melting so it becomes pure again and is used to make the same high-quality cans that it came from.

Is wasting paper a sin?

A definition of sin is given in the book of James in the New Testament of the Bible. James , chapter 4 verse 17. Basically it says that if we know to to do what's right and do not do it, it is a sin. I guess we have to question our actions to see if they are sins. Is it right to waste anything? I personally was taught that being wasteful is not right but wrong so I would count it as a sin. Don't panic though because we have a very forgiving God. He sent his son to earth to die, a blood sacrifice for all of our sins ( John 3:16). All we have to do is believe this and our sins will be forgiven. Keep in mind though that Jesus Christ's death on the cross should not be used as a blank check for sin. When we see that we have sinned we should ask for forgiveness and try our best to turn from that sin and not repeat it. More than likely we will fail but we have to try. The bottom line is that you probablly won't be condemned for wasting paper but wasting paper wastes trees , energy , money, etc. We are all wasteful to some degree.

Is packaging recyclable?

You can recycle most kinds of cardboard packaging and plastics. Check with your local recycling center.

I know that many corrugated packaging companies have started to become more eco-friendly by creating custom printed corrugated boxes that are specially designed from the ground up to keep pace with new sustainable packaging guidelines.

Many corrugated box manufacturers are now using recycled paper and avoid using environmentally unfriendly options like packing peanuts. It is definitely possible to create custom packaging solutions that are creatively designed so that there is no need for this type of filler.

Is water fasting for 3 days a good idea?

If you're generally healthy it's a so-so idea. It won't do you much harm, but it won't do you much good either. As a means for weight loss it's pretty bad, the lack of food will cause your metabolism to slow right down, so once you start eating again you're quite likely to put on a few pounds before your body has speeded up again.

Why does red meat increase your carbon footprint so much while being a vegetarian has very little influence on your cabon footprint?

in America alone, 7 billion animals a year are killed for food, many of them being cows. this large number of cows hurts the earth in several ways: 1) they produce massive amounts of methane, 2) their excrement sometimes pollutes freshwater, 3) their grazing ruins topsoil which makes farming impossible, and 4) they require a lot of grain - it takes about 16 lbs of grain to produce 1 lb of meat.
