That depends on the size and thickness of the burger. Larger ones will take longer to cook than thinner burgers. Fry them on one side until the top side begins turning a brownish tan color, then flip them and fry them on the other side until the burgers are brown and no longer pink inside. You can check the center with a knife for doneness.

This is a loaded question. You have to concider a few things into this that are not as simple as one unit of beef pattie

First, we know that it is a pattie (that is the given unit)
But patties are available in different sizes, usually a fraction of a pound
If a pound weighs 16 ounces (which is a given)
and you want to divide patties into that, then we need to know the size pattie


there are a few standards 1/2 pounder, 1/4 pounder, 1/3 pounder etc
so therefore


16 ounces/ 1/2 pounder = 16/.5=8 ounce pattie
16 ounces/ 1/4 pounder = 16/.25=4 ounce pattie
16 ounces/ 1/3 pounder = 16/.33=5.333 ounce pattie


this still can change depends upon if it is before or after cooking where some moisture goes away from the heat and the pattie will loose weight
