LCD TVs actually have a very low power consumption ratio. Over the course of a year of average television viewing a Toshiba 42 inch LCD TV will use about $8 to $10 of electricity.

The 51 flat screen television will be able to give a watt od between 100 and 400.

In my experience there are a number of things that can affect signal quality.

1. Cable size or gauge - using too small of gauge, especially on runs of more than 50 feet can begin to degrade signal quality.

RG-59 is a poor choice and is acceptable only for short runs in good environments and is susceptible to interference. It is no longer used for cable for these reasons.

Do not use RG-58 as it is for 50 ohm impedance applications instead of 75 ohm impedance of which cable is one application.

A RG-6/U size is preferable and RG-6/UQ is best as it has double the shielding than the regular RG-6/U.

2. Adding splitters will split the cable, but remember that you are also splitting the signal as well so each signal line will be reduced by the amount listed on the splitter (i.e. 7db).

3. Union fittings can cause signal degradation because they are an opening for interference and they can corrode causing an increase in impedance.

4. All connections in general should be tightened with a small wrench and covered with some type of insulating material to reduce weathering and corrosion. I use shrink tubing when I need to have a connection and there is a possibility of corrosion.

Plug the audio system into the AUDIO OUTPUT jacks on the LCD. Go into the menu and change the signal to the jacks to FIXED if you can.

If a piece of the 1/8" plug has broken off inside your computer (usually from tripping over the cord), you will have to try to fish the piece out of the audio output with a very sharp, fine drill bit. You can also see if you can get at the back side of the jack from inside the computer. If not, you will have to replace your sound card, or motherboard if the sound system is on the main board.

Without knowing more, it is impossible to tell. Do you still have the information that came with your TV? It should say in that.

HDMI and DVI are compatible connectors for video signals. There are two small but important differences.

First, DVI does not carry audio whereas HDMI includes it as part of the interface.


Second, and most important, is that HDMI supports HDCP, an encoding system to prevent signals being copied. To receive HDCP encoded signals, the display must be HDCP compliant (i.e. licensed to receive and decode the signals). DVI does not support HDCP and therefore a DVI monitor will see garbage rather than a good signal.


For protection of the content, there are no licensed HDMI to DVI converters on the market. Furthermore, the few unlicensed converters are not guaranteed to operate. Indeed, the HDCP system provides for disabling HDCP receivers in the future if they are using unauthorized license keys. HDCP has been introduced in response to people pirating material. Sadly, it also prevents legitimate use of some content such as display on DVI monitors as this question demonstrates.

Not a good idea, the TV should be kept away from all excessive heat!

TV signal boosters will significantly improve the picture quality of your TV if the poor quality you are currently experiencing is due to signal degradation. If the cable signal is poor from the source, a signal booster will not help.

480 refers to standard definition television signals in North America and it the number of lines that make up the image. (In Europe, 576 lines is the standard definition resolution). 1080 is the number of lines that make up a high definition television signal (720 is another high definition format although less commonly used). Up converters are used to allow 480 signals to be used on 1080 displays or to mix them into other 1080 content during production. The up converter takes a 480 line image and outputs the same image at 1080 lines. They are sometimes used in DVD players and other source equipment to allow standard definition material to share the same format as HD material. SD DVD players that have the feature will normally boast of a 1080 output or HD output. Do not be fooled: SD material that has been up converted will be in HD format but it is absolutely NOT HD quality. The amount of information in and SD signal is about 20% of a true HD signal. Up converting cannot add the extra detail so do not expect up converted material to look like HD.

It varies based on the televions provider. Most providers have the local chanels, movie channels, sports channels, and a couple education channels in HD. In time though this will increase and eventually everything will be in HD.

Most households that own a Bluray disc player normally have at least one DVD player elsewhere in the house.

It is likely that publishers have decided that offering a DVD with each Bluray disc adds value to the buyer so that the same movie can be watched in the living room in HD and also perhaps in a bedroom that doesn't have access to a Bluray player just yet.

Profit on disc sales is linked far more to the number of sales than the cost of producing the discs themselves. A DVD costs almost nothing to manufacture so the additional cost of the product hardly changes. The increase in sales will certainly outweigh the increase in costs.

Be sure that all speaker connections are the proper polarity. This means that the red wire goes to the '+' side of all connections. If your wires are not color coded, inspect them carefully for a small ridge running along one of the wires, or some other means of telling the wires apart. Check polarity on all connections. EDIT: You have to connect the speakers to the bass module, and the bass module to the receiver, otherwise it will not work.
