Heating AC and Engine Cooling

Heating, air conditioning (AC) and engine cooling require a radiator to transfer heat. Heating a cabin requires heat to be transferred from an engine block. Engine cooling blows the heat out of the engine. AC uses refrigerants to cool air.

What kind of oil does air cooled engines use?

Air cooled, umm it depends on what type of engine you are talking about, if its a motorcycle it would be 10w-40 made for an air cooled small engine.

there really a diff. if its new go 10w-30 older i would say 10w-40 Synthetic

Why does the ac start cold but when you turn the car off and restart it it blows hot air?

In most auto ac units, the ac compressor is "at rest" below about 1500 rpms. You usually don't notice it at idle during normal driving because you are stopped at fairly quick intervals. Once the engine has stopped, the inside temp has risen noticeably and you feel the circulated warm air before the compressor kicks back in. The compressor is also designed to cut out over about 4000 rpms. A sensor picks up on the heavier load of the engine and disengages the compressor to supply the extra power needed.

Fan does not turn on to cool engine?

well first thing is first. is you have electric cooling fans, take the out and make sure they work by hooking them up too the battery. just simple take like some 4 gauge wire and connect the to the positive and negative terminals. place the other end of the positive wire to one of the connectors inside the plug connected to the fan and just tap the negative wire to the other side. if they spin then they work. so if it is not that then it is either your cooling fan relay fuse or the sensor that tells your fans when the car is hot or cooled and when to turn of and on!.....good luck!!!

Why does my blower motor only work on high in my 1993 lumina?

There is nothing wrong with the motor there is something wrong with the switching circuits

Is a Honda Shadow VLX 600 water cooled or air cooled?

Both. In reality, the motorcycle has 3 forms of cooling: water, air, and even the engine's oil contributes to its heat dissapation. This is one of the reasons your choice of engine oil and proper maintenance of that oil is critical to the bike; not just lubrication but cooling as well.

1989 Grand Marquis AC blows ice cold idling but blows hot while driving but blows cold when decelerating?

it could be the heater core and ac housing unit that allows hot air to be mixed with the cold air or it could just cancel out the cold due to the motion of the car

Your car overheats and loses water it is not thermostat what could it be?

need find out where you are losing antifreeze = look for leaks at radiator hoses etc first, then intake manifold top side of engine along sides of engine as well. Be careful if engine is hot .then lastly check you engine oil in case there is an internal antifreeze leak due to faulty intake manifold or head gasket. if not found have a pressure test done on the cooling system

Recalls york AC evaporator coil?

Yes there was 2 of them. Both coils were prone to leaks after about a year. Contact your local YORK dealer to see if your evaporator coil model # and serial # are part of the problem coils.

Why does your cooling fan still ran when the engine is switched off on your car?

The cooling fan is controlled by a temperature activated switch, usually installed in the radiator. When the coolant temp rises to a preset setting the switch closes and turns on the fan.

The temperature of the coolant in the engine actually goes up immediately after shutdown as the coolant is no longer flowing but sitting still while it absorbs all the heat from the engine block and head. This heat passes through the coolant and raises the temperature of the contents of the radiator. Thus, a few seconds after the engine is shut off, the sensor reacts to the increase in temperature and turns on the fan.

This is beneficial to the engine because it prevents pressure buildup in the radiator and reduces heat buildup under the hood that could cause hot restart problems.

Why is your 2001 freightliner classic XL shorting AC micro clutch switches and how do you fix it?

You have either a short to ground or short to power somewhere. You can either trace the harness wiring and repair it, or replace the harness outright.

How do you tell head gasket gone?

Check the oil for coolant ot the coolant for oil. It will be a yellowish colored crud. The car will probably overheat too.

How can you cool down steam?

Just like any other substance, steam cools on contact with anything around it that's
cooler. In the case of steam ... rising, let's say, from something on the stove ... it's
cooled by the air it passes through, and by anything else it drifts past, such as the
cool pots elsewhere on the stove, or the walls and ceiling of the kitchen.

BUT ... if you're thinking about cooling some steam enough so that you can hold it in
your hand, then forget about it. Remember that water turns to steam when you heat
it to 212 degrees. It works exactly the same in the other direction ... as soon as you
cool some steam down below 212 degrees, it turns to water !
