Hiking boots can be washed with mild soap and warm water in your bathtub or sink. Gently scrub the dirt off of the outside of the boots with a scrub brush. Make sure to rinse the boots out well so the soap doesn't make your feet itch.
Dry your boots by packing them with newspaper and let them air dry. Synthetic boots can be dried near a heater or in the sun*.
Do not put leather boots near a heater as it will cause the leather to shrink.

Where are the best places to go camping in Iowa?
Iowa is a great place to camp. I would have to say my all-time fav camping spots have been in Eastern Iowa. Eastern Iowa has lots of bluffs and hills, unlike the rest of Iowa, which is flat.
If I had to choose only one, I would recommend Riverview Ridge Campgrounds. It is only 20 minute from Dubuque, IA (on the eastern tip). It is fun for family camping, has tube rentals, hiking trails, bluffs and more - they have by far the nicest RV spots too. I think they have pictures on their website, don't be afraid to research and look around- not all of Iowa is flat cornfields!

When is the best time to climb longs peak?
Longs Peak killed more than a hundred climbers during the past century, three during 2010. The safest part of the year to ascend to the summit is July and August. Unfortunately, the limited window for ascent means that weekends are the worst time to climb because the trail can become very crowded with hikers.
At any other time of the year, ice and snow accumulate on portions of the trail. Ice and snow can increase dangers on mountain trails. In June, 2010, an eighteen-year-old hiker on the smooth west face of Little Bear Peak slid to his death. Falling rock is another danger, especially when other hikers are above you. During the summer of 2010, another hiker was killed by a falling rock on North Maroon Bell. Several years ago, a teacher from Colorado Springs was killed when his friend above him triggered an avalanche on Quandary Peak.

Choosing between hiking the White Mountains and the Adirondacks depends on personal preference.
