Is a 6-head composite VCR better than a 4-head s-Video VCR?

In my opinion for the general application, the 4-head S-Video VCR will be slightly better, although most video is transmitted either through RGB (via SCART) or as composite via RF (antenna cable).

In general, S-Video eliminates some of the aches Compositve video suffers from - the way composite is encoded onto a single wire pair leaves artifacts (visual errors). S-Video somewhat alleviates that by keeping the color and brightness information separate. However, it does not necessarily improve picture quality to/from the VCR. The quality of the picture is dependent most heavily on the quality of video recorded on the tape, or presented in the video stream to be recorded. Also, tape quality affects stored video quality in general.

Also, since most VCRs connect using a SCART cable, the point of this question is moot - the VCR will send/receive its signals using the RGB standard.

If it does, however, come down to choosing between Composite and S-Video when it comes to recording video off of the TV, S-Video is a better option. S-Video provides better overall picture quality. Also, if I remember correctly, the tape has a standard speed regardless of the number of heads, so the only improvements to be gained from having more than two would be chiefly in the area of wear-and-tear of the head mount/spindle, and/or the strength of the signal. Also, I once had a two-head VCR which provided superb quality (at the cost of some image altering during playback).

It really comes down to how you intend to use it. If your pleasure is mostly watching rented movies, a 6-head is the way to go (VCR->TV will go through RGB anyway). If, on the other hand, you record a lot from your TV, I'd choose S-Video (TV->VCR will then have better quality overall).

The extra heads are for the special effects in playback such as slow motion, they play no part in the recording process.

What is 7.1 channel surround sound?

6.1 surround has right front, center, left front, subwoofer, left surround, right surround and a rear channel. The mix is usually created from a 7.1 surround signal, combining the left and right rear signals into one rear signal. There are very few movies with a true 6.1 or 7.1 mix available for home viewing.

How many pins do RCA cables have?

RCA cables may vary depending on their intended use. For example, the most common type of RCA cable includes 3 pins on each end. These pins are divided into audio (2) and video (1). The two audio pins transmit the left and right stereo audio channels while the yellow marked pin carries the video signal. Other common configuration is to have separate cables for audio and video. In this case, the audio cable will be divided into two for the left and right audio while still being a single cable, and the yellow cable will carry the video feed.

Coby 937 DVD home theater system and the DVD input is having problems it isn't reading discs well is there a way i can receive 5.1 audio from the aux inputs with any cables or connections?

Reading discs is a problem with the DVD player, not the inputs. You can use an external DVD player and play the audio through the system, but it will only be in stereo. The Coby 937 only uses the surround decoder with its own DVD player.

How do you fix blown fuse of 5.1 home theater amplifier?

If the fuse is not located on the back of the amplifier near the power cord, it is likely located inside on the circuit board. If you are not familiar with repairing electronic devices, DO NOT OPEN THE AMPLIFIER. There are dangerous voltages present inside the amp, even when the power cord is unplugged. Contact the store where you purchased the amplifier to recommend a repair depot.

Quadraphonic receivers have 4 speaker outputs. Connect 4 speakers of the same models to this. Connect your Quadrophonic turntable or reel-to-reel tape deck to the inputs on the receiver. Note that Quadraphonic systems haven't been sold since the 70's. Modern systems use encoded Dolby Digital or DTS digital audio to make sound with 5 to 7 channels.
