In a home theater system is it ok to wire all the video components directly to the TV bypassing the receiver and wire all the audio components to the receiver?

Yes it's fine. The only time you need to worry is if you are working with a very high end television, and very high end signals, because the video and sound can get out of sync. Some high end televisions and receivers have a function to add/remove delay to the video output for this reason. The call this a lead setting, or lip sync adjustment.

Is the epic cube a good home theater system?

The side and rear speakers seem to be a knock-off of a Bose design. I would be suspicious of any high-end consumer product that had the Suggested List Price (in this case, $2200) printed right on the box, especially when all online sellers sell this system for far less (just a couple of hundred). The only place selling these Epic Sound systems are people dumping them on Ebay and other used gear sites.

This seems to be just an updated version of the back-of-the-van selling technique that was popular years ago.

Can you connect a latptop to a projector via LAN cable?

You can get VGA to CAT 5 baluns (you'll need 2), so that a LAN cable can be used instead of a VGA cable. This is usually done when there is a very long run needed for the cable, since CAT5 is much cheaper and easier to install. You can also get baluns for HDMI, DVI, analog video and audio, S-Video....

Where could one buy a Bose Companion 2 speaker system?

Where can one find reviews on the Sonos products?

Why does the lamp in my Sanyo Pro xtraX projector keep getting hot and shutting down to cool?

Projection TV lamps a quartz envelope, inside which a gas resides. As the lamp heats up, the quartz tends to distort at the base of the lamp from all the heat generated and it generally bulges out some at the base. What this does, is lower the pressure of the gas inside from the extra room created inside the lamp by the bulging area and that causes it to require more energy to keep it ignited. This of course also generates more heat which tends to make the quartz envelope hotter and it expands even more, requiring more cooling. If your TV can't provide the extra cooling, the TV's going to protect itself and shut down the lamp. The general cure is to replace the lamp, which should run cooler until the process eventually starts all over again. In average terms, you should only expect about 2000 hours of use from a lamp before they develop symptoms.

How do you program a urc-r6 remote to my rca DVD player?

Try code 522 for RCA DVD players. Universal doesn't have a listing for RCA DVD players in its manual for the URC-R6.

How to set up DVD player with rca cables to HDTV with component cables?

If the DVD player doesn't have COMPONENT connectors, you will have to use a input on the TV that has RCA input connectors.

Is the HDMI cable really needed for the Apple TV?

No. Standard audio video cable connections work as well if not better, which is important given that most receivers and TVs have limited HDMI ports, which are usually maxed out by DVD, TV and PVRs

How much would a 72inch plasma tv cost?

A 72 inch plasma has not been sold for several years now. All current TVs in the 72 inch class are LCD based. An older plasma in this size sold for about $6000, however you could buy an LCD for almost half of that now.

How do you replace the lamp on a Sanyo pro xtrax multimedia projector?

Sanyo manuals normally include instructions on lamp replacement. Without a model number, it is not possible to provide a detailed instruction and it is important that the manual's instructions are followed precisely. In particular, heed the warnings regarding safety. Not only are the lamps expensive, they can also be hazardous if they are not handled correctly.

If the manual isn't available, almost all projector manuals can be downloaded from the Sanyo web site. Once you have found the Sanyo site for your own country, go to the support or download section making sure you have the full model number of the projector ready to enter.

If you are unsure about doing it, your local audio visual dealer will be more than happy to change the lamp for you.

What is the good brand of home theater?

Your home theater doesn't have to be one brand. The TV can be one, the receiver another, and the speakers the third. The best speakers are made by companies that don't make the other two parts. For TV, go with a major brand, such as Sony, Sharp, Samsung, LG or Panasonic. For receivers, go with Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo or Harmon-kardon. For speakers, I've always had good luck with Klipsch.

Why won't my DVD player play in color... I have a Sony DVD player. Everything is hooked up properly. Advice?

If you are using a s connector cable, a bent pin inside the connector can cause a no color picture.

Does the Sanyo PRO Xtrax Multiverse Projector 01 cope with widescreen anamorphic?

The PLC-XU38 (one of the models of the PRO Xtrax series) can display widescreen anamorphic for DVD video. It can also display 720p and 1080i signals, but the LCD panel only has a 1024 x 768 resolution.

Why are 7.1 channel receivers have 7.1 analog input and not digital 7.1 input?

There are two standards for high-quality named DVD-Audio (DVD-A) and Super Audio CD (SACD). Players for both types connect to a receiver via a 5.1 channel analog input. So these 7.1 analog inputs are mainly aimed to be compatible with players of those formats.

If you want to transmit 7.1 digital channels to a receiver, you can do that over the HDMI input. You don't need a special audio-only input for that, which is why there is no digital 7.1 audio input standard. HDMI is effectively that standard.

Do all home audio systems sound the same ?

No, they do not all sound the same. I would recommend the Boose Audio home stereo system. Boose has great quality and you can hook up the speakers around your home and near the TV. It will give you that movie quality sound you were looking for.

What would cause a RCA 630W home theater system in a well ventilated area to get hot?

Even well-ventilated amplifiers get hot when used. The power coming in from the wall is converted into sound energy, but it is never 100% efficient. The lost energy is converted to heat.

Why are HDMI cables better than component cables?

HDMI cables are not better than component cables. They are different and the HDMI interface provides features that are not available on analog component interfaces. HDMI absolutely does not automatically result in better quality images.

HDMI carries a component signal for television. It's often the same component signal that analog cables carry other than the fact that it is in a digital form. The information it carries is the same as analog component. In both cases, the image quality is dependent on the signal that is output and not the type of interface.

HMDI can also carry a wide range of signal formats and it is now the only domestic connector that is compatible with HD signals. Although there is an HD analog component interface, it is never seen on domestic equipment for one reason. HDMI interfaces allow copy protection systems (HDCP) to be used so that uesrs cannot extract the signal and record it. Analog HD component signals cannot be protected in the same way. The restriction to HDMI is the industry's way of protecting content and reducing piracy.

HMDI is also more convenient in that it carries video audio and control data as wel as allowing players and televisions to talk to each other. It reduces set up time and reduces the number of cables behind the equipment.

HDMI is limited to short lengths. Although long cables can be purchased, they are expensive ad bulky. Analog component (and other digital component signals) can be run far greater distances without problem. There are now HDMI extenders that use low cost CAT5 cables to run signals up to 100 feet or more and these often work out less expensive than long HDMI cables.
