I have a 2002 Honda Rancher 350 and the front skid plate attaches to the brush guard near the bottom. A new one is about $34 for a new one at Motosport.com with about $8 shipping. Hope this helps.

the top speed of both is 53 but the rancher seems to get there much quicker but my forman is 4x4 and my rancher is 2wd

all you need is a HMF performance series muffler, k&n air filter, and an HMF optimizer, the rancher has plenty of power. and if you really wanna show them big bikes what the rancher can crawl thru, than add gear reduction, 2in lift, highlifter springs, and 29.5 outlaws wide in the rear, and skinnys in the front. my 420 has all that, and when it comes to the mud my 4wheeler is a can am killer.

the switch is inside the back cover, but you should check the shift drum. the end of the shift drum has a slot in which the neutral switch sets in, and on my rancher the end of the shift drum was broke so when the quad is in neutral the switch said it was in gear you pretty much have to completely disassemble the whole engine and tranny to change the shift drum. good luck

the engine oil and trans oil is all in one!

Plug one end to the Petcock and the other end to the Carburetor......

Add 2 quarts of Honda 4stroke motor oil then check the level @ dipstick and adjust accordingly. Good luck & don't forget to change the oil filter.

With the dip stick on the side of the motor. Right side to be exact.

The transmission shares the engine oil.

While stationary and in neautral there is a red button on the left handlebar on the rear brake lever. You need to push this down and pull the brake lever and then you can push the foot gear selector down for reverse.

The oil capacity on a Honda Rancher 420 is to quarts or four pints. Honda recommends using 10 W 30 motor oil.

A Rancher ES Should have a lever in the storage compartment to manually shift gears with.

According to the Honda shop manual for the 1978-79 model year the correct gap for the CX500 is .024 to .028 in (0.6-0.7 mm)

The fuse box is located directly behind the battery. It is a box about 1 1/2 by 3 inches in size. There is an access panel held in place with two screws that must be removed to see it.
