Was Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois an abolitionist?
Senator Stephen A. Douglas was not an abolitionist. He thought that the slavery debate would never be resolved peacefully in its current form.
So he proposed that each new state, before it applied for statehood, should be allowed to vote on whether to be slave or free. The result was the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska Act. This was based on his belief in popular sovereignty. Douglas was a nationally known leader who also hoped the transcontinental railroad would start from Chicago, Illinois, his home state.

Yes i think it will come back because there is a lot of inmates and not a lot of space to house them, there are people that are in there for none violence crimes and should be able to come home to their families and show they can do right. Illinois good time is back. Quinn signed the bill, I've heard that the inmates should be affected by this after the election this year. But id like to know when, if anybody has a better answer Please let me know.
That certainly sounds like fraudulent intent to me. You wrote a post-dated check, which is a promise to pay. Then you cancelled the account, and you had to know that this meant that the check which you wrote would never be good.
Yup; that's fraud, and almost any judge in the world - who was NOT from Illinois - would agree.
Illinois judges can sometimes be persuaded that the illegal is actually legal, or that the legal is really illegal. THat's why most Illinois governors for the past half century have gone to prison from the statehouse.
What happened to St Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Evanston Illinois?
It was closed in 1998. The nursing profession was getting high tech, moving away from hospital-based 2- and 3-year diploma programs towards BSN & ANP programs at universities. Graduates of diploma programs couldn't transfer their credits if they wanted to pursue a higher degree at a university. To address this situation, St. Francis Hospital formed an accreditation agreement in 1978 with St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, IN so the credits earned there could transfer into a BSN program at a college. But the cost of nursing education was escalating so high that tuition in diploma programs could no longer offset it. It would mean raising tuition higher than universities, who are better able to absorb and distribute costs of these programs to the rest of the student body. And so hospital-based diploma programs closed around the USA.
