What country did Iraq invade in 1990 claiming it as its 19 province?
Kuwait, to Iraq's southwest, was conquered by Iraq in 1990. It was considered the 19th province of Iraq since during the Ottoman Period, Kuwait was part of the Mesopotamian region dominated by Iraq. However, the separation of Kuwait by the British early on made it independent to all but the Iraqis.
Iraq as an independent nation (since 1923) has never successfully taken over Iran. Iraq's incursions into Iranian territory during the first part of the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1982) occupied less than 5% of Iranian territory. However, there have been empires based in Iraq that have conquered Iran such as the Abbassid Caliphate and Ilkhanate in the 800s-1300s.
In history Iraq was named mesopitamia. It was one of the places where many usefull inventions where invented. The wheel was one. they used it to carry heavy things around. Another was the wagon, used for traveling long distance when the Mesopotamians had no mounts. They also invented laws and the first writing.Theres was called cuneiform. Cuneiform was triangle shaped wedges into clay. They used stylus to write. there's was made out of reed.they wrote down laws, myths, stories and other things. Because of writing we now know a lot about Ancient Iraq.......or Mesopotamia.

I have a nephew that's been there twice. It takes anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to get there but it takes a while longer to actually reach the person depending on where their unit is and what there job is. So it can sometimes take a month or longer!
Why did the US kill people in Iraq?
It was over oil in the Middle East.
But the War on Terror is about A campaign initiated by the US government under President George W. Bush which includes various military, political, and legal actions taken to "curb the spread of terrorism," following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
Is the war in Iraq over religion?
It would appear so, but it definitely was never intended to be that way. Let us not forget that the reason originally given to us by the Bush Administration was that Saddam Hussian had acquired weapons of mass destruction and that the security of our allies and more importantly our own lives were at risk. The reason why people believe religion is the issue is because throughout the uprise of Saddams power he was a benefactor and avid supporter of terrorism. At this point a very religious man by the name of Osama Bin-Laden, who by the way happened to be worth anywhere from 250-300 million, had been fed up with the United States and its war on what he called the "Holy Land". He felt that the United States had disrespected his religion. Now with Osama Bin Laden having mutual dislikes for the United States as Saddam Hussian, they both began being tied together. Working on several acts of terrorism. Now that Saddam has been caught and executed, we have Osama Bin Laden responsible for many attacks. Our war had been faught and won, but the War on Terror spewed into our main purpose and is now reason as to why we feel this to be a religious war. It was no at first, and yes to now. Hope this helps!
Did the West invade Iraq to gain access to oil reserves?
Yes why not? The first answer was wrong. Bush went into Iraq to get oil and he totally lied about Saddam having Weapons of Mass Destruction. He thought that if we (USA) could control Iraq's oil supply, we could control all the oil supply in the middle east and, in the words of Dick Cheney, 'Nobody will ever mess with us anymore!' All we would have to do is 'alter' Iraq's form of government by taking out their long time leader, have them pass laws by us and everything else all in exchange for oil. We did the same thing to Cuba. Now gas is really expensive because we barely have gas. Just because we went into Iraq to get oil doesn't mean that we would necessarily get oil. We failed to get oil because it was obviously harder than we thought to obtain oil.
I'm hoping whoever answered this was joking, otherwise they are speaking out of their @ss. The reason "oil" was such an issue with the Iraq war was because the media made it so. Never was there a statement made that oil was the reason, nor was there ever an attempt to retrieve oil because it wasn't the original intent. I literally lol'd at the statement "We failed to get oil because it was obviously harder than we thought to obtain oil". We (the US) have the premier equipment and technology in obtaining oil. If anyone were to pull oil out of anywhere, it would be us. This leads me to believe this poster was joking because nobody could be that stupid.
Sadaam was a ruthless dictator who continuously slaughtered the Kurds and slaughtered his own people.
The Iraq situation is almost identical to the situation Obama is in with Libya.
Obama/Libya war & Bush/Iraq war similarities:
-Our President wants to rid a ruthless dictator slaughtering their civilians
-Our president sends military and drops air strikes and bombs on the country.
The only difference is that the media is portraying the Libya situation as a means of Obama keeping peace, whereas the same could be said for Bush. Why the difference? Because the media (other than FOX) has loyalty to the democratic party (Anyone who argues that is clearly insane).
Moral of the story: When you hear something the media (including FOX) tells you, do some research because you are 9 times out of 10 hearing a biased story filled with half-truths.
All it takes is for some hobo off the street to say "Bush eats human brains" and any journalist could write an entire article of how Bush eats human brains because "a source" told them so.
What was the fate of saddam hussein?
Hussein was found guilty by an Iraq tribunal was executed by hanging.
How did Iraq become an independent nation?
The US gave the country back to them officially on 28 June 2004.
The cold war ended; there was no nation capable of preventing the US...as the US was the most powerful nation in the world in 1991. With no Soviet Union to prevent operations, with the life blood of the world in the balance (oil), the US requested approval...the UN saw no reason not to agree to it; no one had anything to lose by the decision...except for Iraq.
There was 155,000 and now in 2011 its down to about 50,000
Yes, the withdrawel process and the logistics involved will more than likely take until 2011 until our forces have fully withdrawn.
UPDATE:
No. All US troops have been withdrawn as of December 16, 2011.
What branch of the military has lost the most casualties in the current war with Iraq?
Army... by far. The Army has 2450 casualties. The Marine Corps follows with 872. The reason of so many army casualities is because the army is the biggest military branch therefore more deployment and more people to kill.

What was the reason Saddam Hussein started the gulf war?
The US did not start the war in the Persian Gulf; border disputes started the Iran-Iraq War in 1980-1988.
In the minds of many, the reason the United States went to war with Iraq is still not clear. The historical account goes like this:
Saudi Arabia had been asking the US for a long time to leave their country, but the U.S. did not leave. That made one particular man named Osama bin Laden angry and he hatched several terrorist attack plans against the U.S, the most devastating being the attack on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. Then he went into hiding. President Bush vowed to hunt down bin Laden, and the U.S. declared war on Iraq. The reason given to the public was originally that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction; however, no weapons were found. The public was later told that the U.S. Was in Iraq to instill democracy.
Unfortunately, not finding any weapons of mass destruction left doubts in many people's minds about the "real" reasons the U.S. went to war with Iraq. It also came to light that bin Laden was trained by the C.I.A and that the bin Ladens were visitors to the White House on several occasions, In addition, during the time when all planes were grounded on 911, it was alleged that President Bush flew bin Laden's brother out of the U.S. Since 911, there have also been doubts raised about the events that occurred that day and whether bin Laden was really responsible for it, along with allegations that the U.S. Made billions of dollars from the sale of weapons to Iraq.
So, there is the historical account, but in many people's minds we may never know the real reasons the U.S. went to war with Iraq.
