What did early followers of Judaism Christianity and Islam all have in common?

Answer 1

Salam Alaykom

The prophets who started these religions all had 1 thing in common: They were Muslim.

After the holy books from the other two became corrupted, Allah-swt- sent prophet Muhammed-pbuh- to revive true Islam mostly through the Quran.

From 1,300+ years ago to this day, the Quran remains uncorrupted. (MashaAllah)

Answer 2

There is really not much in common between the early followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam since the the early followers of all three, as defined by the the codification of the religion all started in very different places.

Judaism was first defined by a wandering tribe of people who were beginning to settle and cultivate a new piece of land. They became vigorous defenders of that land when necessary, but were primarily farmers. Their United Kingdom (the Davidic Kingdom), was a regional secondary power at its height before breaking up and becoming vassals or occupied by larger powers.

Christianity was born in a time of persecution and repression of non-pagan faiths in the Roman Empire. The early history of Christendom was defined by a profound statelessness and fear of being found to be a Christian. Major Christian cities are dotted with underground catacombs where Christians lived to avoid this persecution. This need to continue hiding created numerous heterodoxical Churchs as communication between all Christians was minimal. When Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity in 314 C.E. a paradigm shift occurred. Christians were able to organize and attach themselves to the State Structure, which Christianity then used to bolster its own power and regional influence. It also began state-supported proselytization and expansion.

Islam was born to Arab tribal merchant families who were more prone to warfare than most sedentary tribes and plagued with disunity. Islam served to unite the Arab tribes (after much conflict) under one banner. Arabia had been, for much of history, up to that point, undesirable barbarian territory and when the Arabs were actually united under one banner, it took the world by surprise. Since Islam was the foundation of the new Arab regime, Islam enjoyed a native state structure and theocratic power. The Arabs were also able, in a very short period of time, to conquer vast swathes of territory and convert large numbers of people in that period.

Can you explain why for Muslims turning from Jerusalem and facing Mecca is called a symbolic break with the past?

It was, in fact, not a break from the past. Jerusalem is still a sacred city for the Muslims. Islam is the continuation of Judaism and Christianity. The Muslims must believe in all the Prophets (May peace be upon them all). It was the secret wish of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad SAW that the House of Almighty Allah, built by Hazrat Abraham AS should become the Ka'abah for the Muslims. His wish was granted by Almighty Allah.

What were the followers of sunnah called?

shia Islam followers are called shia.

shia shiite shi'te shii'te shīʿah shi'ite shi'ites shias all are the same.

all are for arabic word شيعه which means follower [of some one]/ sect.

and in shia/sunni debates means "shia of Ali"

shia and sunni have mostly same beliefs and both believe in fundamental beliefs of Islam. today there is up to 260 sect in Islam that are in two category of shia and sunni.

shia believes in Allah, prophet and all fundamentals of Islam.

shia pray 5 times a day but usually do the 2,3 and 4,5 pray together and so may seem they do 3 pray a day. there is some differences in details of pray like how to hold hands in pray and on what do the genuflect (for shia should be on a stone or part of earth and for sunni on carpet or floor ).

shia believe after death of prophet God selects the successive for prophet who is the leader of Muslim community and people can not select it.

shia believe the Caliph (Representative of God in earth after prophet) is appointed only by God and can not be selected by people because God said in Koran: "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority." (Quran 2:30)

this means only God can select an Islamic leader.

in shia they are only fourteen infallible (12 Imams and prophet and his daughter Fatimah Zahra (sa))

and all of them are the same and have no mistake and have the knowledge of everything (this knowledge is from God and by permission of God and is not absolute knowledge. absolute knowledge is only for God and they still do not know many things. but they know anything human may need to know.) and they never die and they hear all sayings and even thinks of all humans after their death by permission of God and they are intermediates between God and human.

and shia Muslims always support them and forgive their lives for them.

shia Muslims do not consider selection of Abubakr as Caliph valid because God did not select him. they believe God ordered prophet to declare Ali is selected as successor of prophet (Quran 5:3) and prophet did this mission in Ghadir event that was in last Hajj of prophet in his life and prophet did a speech for 120,000 Muslims participating that Hajj with prophet. the famous shia book Al-Ghadir is a collection of evidences and proofs for Ghadir Hadith from 100,000 sunni references and read all of 10,000 sunny books. one sunni scholar said if we want to reply Al-Ghadir book (by Allameh Amini) we should first destroy all our books.

In what ways is islam different from other world religions?

Many attributes make Islam unique. Some of them are:

  • Islam is an Arabic word that means submission. The Arabic root of Islam is 'salem' that means 'be in peace'. In other words, Islam, in its universal sense, is the religion of submission to God, the Creator, and by submission to God, the only one God, you achieve peace between yourself and the whole universe that are part of. This explains that Islam is the religion and call of all God prophets since start of mankind. However,
    • Islam per God revelation of Torah to prophet Moses is called Judaism,
    • Islam per God revelation of the Bible to prophet Jesus is called Christianity, and
    • Islam per God revelation of the Quran to prophet Muhammad is called the very name Islam.
  • The Islam religion holy book Quran, Muslims holy book, is the only holy book that remains without single letter alteration. The only holy book that reflects God real words with the same God revelation language that is still live language. Quran is the only holy book that is memorized by heart by millions of people from east to west. In addition, Quran is the last holy book. Quran is the only holy book with scientific miracles that was possible to be proved only with current advances in science and technology to add proofs to Quran authenticity as God revelation.
  • Prophet Muhammad, who is the God messenger to call for Islam per God revelation of Quran to him, is the last God prophet. Accordingly, he is the only prophet who is really adopted by all people, Muslims and non Muslims, as the true mankind model of good morals in life, dealing with people, marriage, ruling, etc.. He is the only prophet with all his sayings and practices are fully recorded for follow up and adoption.
  • Islam is the only religion that believes in all God prophets and in all God holy books.
  • Islam is the religion of pure truth and logistics and calls all people to the scientific approach of thinking.
  • Islam is the only religion that provides rules for all your life aspects and in balance between normal life requirements and the second eternal good life requirements and balance between ritual worship and work for humankind benefit.

What makes this religion so unique is that is very peaceful and that they only follow what they believe is right.

----------------------

Every religion is in some way unique. And the followers of every religion believe that they only follow what they believe is right. The uniqueness of Islam is more than this.

It is true that the decision of the Islamic government of Sudan, to allow the southern Christian and animist people of the nation the free choice whether to form a new country, is evidence that Muslims can be a peaceful people, and this is a credit to the followers of Islam. But against this there are always examples to the contrary, such as the wanton shooting of a Pakistani governor merely for speaking out for a woman accused of blasphemy. There are not enough peaceful Muslims in the world, just as there are not enough peaceful Christians in the world.

Islam can certainly claim to be unique because it is said that the angel Gabriel taught the Koran to the Prophet Muhammad. Unfortunately for this premise, Christianity will say that there is no real evidence that this happened.

Muslims will say that Muhammad was the last prophet of God. But Baha'i, Sikhism and Mormonism all offer more recent prophets of God.

Perhaps it is enough just to say that all religions are unique, each in its own way, all religions offer their followers spiritual fulfilment, and all religions should be treated with due respect and admiration.

Are young Muslims allowed to date?

No, actually they are not, but sadly, many Muslim children are either not aware of it or use dating as a form of rebellion. But no, my friend is Muslim and she studies her religion thoroughly with the best sources so that she knows exactly what she's supposed to follow and what her religion asks of her. I asked her this and there are like tons of good reasons and points to back this up, but I don't have the time to write them out.

How was the Arabia region before Muhammad mission?

Before the prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) was born and the Quran revealed to him (at the age of 40) the Arabs were very backward minded. Each individual could have had upto one god each. Where the Ka'Ba lies now (the place where Muslims go to pilgrimage (i.e the big black cube) was filled with idols. These idols ranged from small rocks to large ones and even plants etc... when the prophet (PBUH) revealed what was revealed unto him he told the people of Mecca the truth and that God was only one and that he was the final messenger and that the Qu'ran was the final complete revelation from God.

At first the Meccans would not stand for it at all and his presence was not welcome at this community. Although Muhammad (PBUH: Peace be upon him) was a very honest and sound minded individual in terms of trade and business sense, he was actually illiterate meaning he could not read or write. So when this individual came to the people and revealed this beautiful and accurate revelation from his own mouth, (God imprinted the whole Qu'ran verse by verse in his mind) the people were shocked, dumbfounded and stunned as to how this illiterate man could reveal something which went against their values.

As a result the Prophet (PBUH) left Mecca for Madina; the people here welcomed him with open arms and listened to his wise words.

To cut a long story short, 100 years after the prophets death (PBUH) Islam had spread all the way from eastern Europe all the way to western Africa)

Nowadays Islam is the most perfect religion factually speaking (every religion besides Islam contradicts itself somewhere among its own verses. To this day Islam is the only religion which Science works along with rather than against. Not a single word can be disproved by modern science and as science has improved, the Qu'ran reveals further more miracles which seemed irrelevent at the time but as a result of scientific improvements, we can see that the Qu'ran was right all along and it was just a matter of time until science could verify it.

Islam is now the fastest growing religion in the world and is also the second largest religion.

Please read about Islam and the miracles of the Qu'ran to see for yourself how it is so much ahead of every other religion and how it is the perfect way of life to lead.

Thanks

Yes, but in exceptional cases. To have more than one wife is subject to strict conditions. The first of which is to have acceptance of former wife (or wives) and second is to treat them equally without any discrimination. This is allowed in exceptional cases. For example if your wife is life sick and can't practice sex with you or if she can't children for. Despite these examples the overwhelming majority of Muslim men prefer to continue with one wife.

What are the major differences between Judaism Buddhism Christianity and Islam?

Answer 1

The main difference between the three Abrahamic religions is that most Christians believe in the Holy Trinity, that God is composed of three parts (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), but in Islam and Judaism there is only one god (similar to the 'Father') with no partner, son or equal. Muslims believe that Jesus was a prophet, but not God nor the son of God. In Judaism, Jesus is considered a false messiah and Jews do not believe in him. Some Christians do not believe in the Holy Trinity.

All three stemmed from Abraham:

  • Judaism was called for by Moses with the God revelation of the Torah
  • Christianity was called for by Jesus with the God revelation of the Bible
  • Islam was called for by Muhammad with the God revelation of Qur'an

The Bible's Old Testament originates from the Torah, and is also considered holy by Muslims (apart from some details), and there are similar stories in all three but a large amount is different in each. There are many versions of the Bible, but only one version of the Qur'an (unless translations are counted). Muslims believe the Torah and Bible have been corrupted by time and translation, so the Qur'an is distributed in its original Arabic God revelation language; an old Arabic language. (like how Old English differs to modern English)

Commentary on Answer 1

1. In Islam and Judaism they believe in God as the one and only God. He is the same God considered by most Christians as manifested in three (Trinity) as father, son, and spirit.

2. The religions are developed by God and not Moses, Jesus, or Muhammad.

3. The Qur'an is revealed in Arabic language that is still the live language (not old language). We speak the same language currently at no change in neither words nor grammar.

Answer 2

Christianity is also monotheistic, though Christians distinguish there to be Three Persons in God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. The Son, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, is Jesus Christ, Whose claims to divinity is believed and celebrated in the mainstream Christian religions.

Islam is monotheistic, but again differs from the above in the identity of God. Muslims call God, Allah and believe that Jesus Christ was one of the great prophets of Allah but certainly he was neither God nor divine.

Jesus Christ is therefore the proverbial stumbling-block between these three religions.

Commentary on Answer 2 aboveAllah is God in English and considered by some to be the same God worshiped in Christianity and Judaism. God is written in the Arabic versions of the Bible as Allah.

Answer 3

From the point of view of Judaism, if Jesus Christ is not God, then those of the Jewish Faith are quite right to regard Christianity as a heretical offshoot from Judaism, and Islam in its turn would then become a heresy cobbled together from both Judaism and Christianity.

From the perspective of the Christian, Judaism rejected its own Messiah and is no longer within the covenant promised by God, for that covenant was fulfilled in Christ. Christianity is therefore the Old covenant fulfilled in the New and followers of Judaism are being stubborn and blind by following a dead religion. Christianity views Islam as a Judeo-Christian heresy.

For those worshipers of Islam, both Judaism and Christianity are corrupted religions who unwittingly hold fragments of the truth, but which yet disseminate lies against Allah and all justice. Islam was Allah's gift of truth to man after so much corruption and to Allah all peoples must submit through Islam.

Commentary on Answer 3

1. There are no worshipers of Islam. All Islamic religion followers are worshipers to God as the one and only one God with no partner.

2. Muslims never considered Christianity or Judaism are corrupted religions. They just consider that some alterations were introduced into the written texts of the Bible and Torah. In principle Muslims consider Jews and Christians peoples of the Book as they are holders of the holy books the Bible and the Torah that Muslims believe in as God holy books.

3. Islam is an authentic religion from Allah and not extractions from Christianity and/or Judaism. Otherwise how was God's holy book, the Quran correct for the alterations introduced into the Torah and Bible.

Answer 4

Judaism, Christianity and Islam are the world's three major monotheistic religions, and fittingly, they all share many similar characteristics. But they have many key differences as well. Judaism is the oldest of the three, with its beginnings coming about 3,500 years ago.

The other two came from Judaism later on. The holy book of the Jewish people is the Tanach, which contains the Torah (also known as the Five Books of Moses), Nevi'im (Prophets), and K'tuvim (Writings). Moses was the prophet whom Jews consider to be the greatest of all. The largest Jewish population in the world is located in Israel, with large concentrations across the United States, especially in New York.

Christianity came about approximately 2,000 years ago, and holds to the belief that Jesus is the son of God and will come to Earth again someday. The main sects of Christianity are Catholicism and Protestantism, which both have many sects within themselves. The Holy Bible contains both the Old Testament (which was based on the Tanach) and the New Testament.

Islam was founded by the prophet Muhammad about 600 years after the birth of Christianity. The highest concentration of Muslims is in the Middle East and in Southwest Asia. The book of Islam is the Koran. Muslim's claim to believe in the Torah, but when it comes to the Holy Bible, they consider it corrupted.

Commentary on Answer 4

1. The oldest religion is Islam in its general sense as full submission to God (the Creator). In this understanding, it was the call of all prophets since Adam, ..., Noah, ..., Abraham, Isaac, Ismael, ..., Moses,..., Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace be upon them).

2. Under this umbrella of Islam, the religion per Torah revelation to Moses is called Judaism; per revelation of the Bible to Jesus is called Christianity; and per Quran revelation to Muhammad is called the same name Islam as it was the last religion from God.

3. Islam per God's Quran revelation to Muhammad is founded by God (or Allah) not by Muhammad. Muhammad, as all other prophets, was merely God's Messenger to convey God message per Quran, to mankind.

4. Muslims are spread allover the world. The highest majority are in Asia; in particular in south east Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India,...) and Middle East (Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Algeria,...).

Answer 5

Judaism practices many of the customs and honors the holy days that the Christian church has forgotten, such as Sukkot, Pesach (Passover), Hannukah, etc.

Christianity has the fundamental belief that Jesus was sent by God to save us from our sins and that he is our savior.

Islam welcomes the message of Jesus, but doesn't accept that he is divine, or should be called the Son of God.

Answer 6

Christianity = We have a loving God who forgives who has mercy. Jesus was sent to the earth to die on the cross for our sins.We have the only God who has risen from the dead.

Judaism = believes that man is born innocent and good and that no one can atone for the mistakes of others or for mistakes not yet made. Judaism also believes that human sacrifice is an abomination.

Answer 7

Judaism :

There is only One, Unique God who does not have any offspring and does not come to Earth in the form of a man, and who gave the Jews a Law to follow. God gave the Law only for the Jews. Only Isaac was included in the Covenant with Abraham.

Christianity: (what Paul taught, as opposed to what Jesus taught)

God came to Earth in the form of a man. The Laws of Judaism became unnecessary and were replaced by belief in Jesus as being the "Son of God" and, at the same time, God Himself. Religion became universal - for all the people. Jesus eventually returns as "God" or "Son of God".

Islam:

There is only One, Unique God who does not have any offspring and does not come to earth in the form of a man. God gave the Jews a Law to follow but they did not do what He commanded them to do. So God sent Jesus as the Messiah (but not as a "son" of God). Jesus said that God would now take His Law that He gave to the Children of Israel, and give it to a "new nation". In other words, he foretold the coming of the Last prophet - Muhammad. Jesus returns as the Messiah - and declares that: 1) he never told people to worship him as a god, 2) he insisted that people follow the Law of Moses as the way to salvation, and, 3) he foretold the coming of Muhammad as the bringer of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Jesus then unites all the people under the Final Law of God.

Answer 8

All three religions stem from the same Prophet Abraham. Jews accept all the Prophets of the Torah but stop at Jesus. Christians accept all the Prophets of the Torah and accept Jesus but stop at Muhammad. Muslims accept all prophets of all religions and consider Muhammad to be the last Prophet of God. Islam teaches that Prophets can still come, but they must be subordinate and within the line of Islam. However, Islam is a universal religion for all people of all times. The Qur'an is a perfect book that has no doubt and no contradictions. It has been kept in the original form when it was revealed 1400 years ago.

Answer 9

Islam is different than Christianity and Judaism as follows:

  • Muslims believe that God is One while most Christians believe that God is three persons in one and most Jews believe that Aliazer is son of God.
  • Muslims believe that Muhammad is God's prophet and messenger while Christians and Jews don't believe Muhammad is God's prophet or messenger.
  • Muslims believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) is God's prophet and messenger while most Christians believe that Jesus is God and the Savior of humanity while Jews don;t believe that Jesus is prophet or son of God, or God.
  • Muslims believe that Jesus was lifted bodily to the heavens by God's miracle and was not crucified while Christians believe that Jesus was crucified. Jews don't believe in Jesus at all.
  • Muslims believe that Adam and Eve were forgiven by God (the Creator) while many Christians believe in the concept of original sin and its transfer to all generations. Jews have same belief as Christians in this regards.
  • Muslims believe that every one is responsible of his deeds in front of God in the Last Day of Judgment while Christians believe that the Christ will save them from their sins. Jews believe that they are forgiven by God from any sins they do.
  • Muslims believe in the Torah, Bible and the Qur'an as God's holy books (in addition to other holy scriptures revealed to Abraham, David, and other prophets) while Christians believe in the Torah and the Bible only and don't believe in the Qur'an. Jews don't believe in Quran or the Bible
  • Muslims weekly religious holiday is Friday and is allowed to work on Fridays, per their choice, while Christians have Sunday as their weekly religious holiday and they are not recommended to work on Sundays. Jews have Saturday as their weekly religious holiday and they are not recommended to work on Saturdays.
  • Muslims don't believe that God took rest on the 7th day after universe creation in 6 days (as God creation of anything is by just 'be' then 'it is' and God never feel tired) while Christians and Jews believe that on the 7th day, after universe creation in 6 days, God took rest.

It is to be highlighted that the three religions are different only in some faith issues that are regarding the relationship between yourself and your God. This is a matter to be resolved by God on the Day of Judgment. However, both religions are quite similar in all issues regarding relationships among all people. In reality, there are no differences between the three religions regarding the way that people of different religions should treat each other and deal with each other. This, logically and spiritually, calls all people to live together in love, peace, and harmony regardless their different religions or beliefs.

The followers of the three religions worship same God (Allah in Arabic). The followers of the three religions believe in prophets Noah, Abraham, and Moses.

Another View:

In reality, there really is no similarity to best describe the Judeo-Christian beliefs of God to the Muslim Islamic belief.

Judaism and Christianity have the Old Testament in common. Islam believes both OT and NT have been partially corrupted in transmission while the Koran is believed by Muslims to be the final and infallible revelation of God's will.

Though Muslims believe in God which they call Allah, Islam teaches that Allah is all-powerful, sovereign and 'unknowable' while Judaism and Christianity both teach the Creator God to be revealed as merciful, compassionate and knowable (see Jeremiah 9:24 and John 17:3).

The Christian text teaches the God of the Old Testament was the Word and it was He who Abraham and the other patriarchs and prophets worshiped. Islam teaches the Word, aka Jesus 'as one of perhaps 124,000 messengers of prophets Allah has sent and is one of the 25 listed in the Koran - but He is not the redeemer' (Marvin Olasky, "Islam vs. Liberty," World, Sept 10, 2011).

All in all, there are more differences and conflicts between the Judeo-Christian texts and the Muslim text, as well as the Koran conflicts with secular history.

What should Muslims do if one among them dies?

they say the same thing you do when your born (Allah uakbar asahadou la ilaha illalah asahoudo WA muhamed a raolola hiay Allah slaay hiay Allah falagh Allah uakbar lailaha illlala ) the atham meaning (god calls god calls to all humanity to the follwers of mohamed come to pray come to prosper god calls you will go to heaven) they also say rest in peace which is (yayath ayatu hal nafsu mutha ma ina

Actually Muslims say when someone dies " inaa lillaahi WA inaa illayhi raji'oon" meaning " to Allah we belong and to Him is our return" and make du'AA for the person who has seased

How do Muslims make moral decisions?

Moral decisions are based on the values per Quran and prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teachings. Refer to related question below.

Can Muslims take pictures or have pictures taken of themselves?

It's not that muslims can't take pictures of people, it'd that muslims can't display them, in which for example: for women who are not properly covered, it's best if the pictures of them are not displayed because they can be or may be seen by the non-mahram (not of kin) because it is considered haraam (prohibited) in islam
