Unplug two sensors attached to where the hose going to where air filter is, unbolt 4x long screws around the throttle (keep an eye on the gasket between the engine and the throttle body).
There's two small hoses attached to the throttle, if you can't remove them off (really tight as) no need to worry because you can start spraying the Throttle Cleaner (leave it for a while) to the throttle, I suggest you get a box of tissue, before you start wiping the throttle (clothes not good because it will smudge the oil all over the inside throttle), spray a little to the tissue before wiping it, keep doing it until you see the inner body is light silver color.
Then you can start cleaning the butterfly inside with tissue sprayed with spray cleaner, use your thumb to hold the butterfly piece (not with any sharp tool) while your other hand/fingers cleaning it.
Before you put it all back, it's not a bad idea if you start cleaning the air filter box where your air filter seating (or replace the if it's old air filter), spray with an Electronic Spray Cleaner each and every sensors and the connectors you unplug.

Failsafe engine mode on a 2000 jaguar s type is caused by a stopped up throttle body. Jaguar says not to clean the throttle body since it has a protective coating to help keep deposits from accumulating. You can clean the throttle body as long as you use ONLY throttle body cleaner that states it is safe to use with a protective coating. The butterfly valve in the throttle body will actually stick not allowing air to flow into the manifold causing failsafe engine mode to kick in reducing the amount of power your engine will produce. To solve the issue just clean out your throttle body, it will cost you around $5 dollars and take 1 hour of your time.

There are 2 service repairs known for causing battery drain. 1 requires a jumper wiring harness from your local dealer. Generally speaking the most common reason is a short/open is not allowing the electronic modules to "go to sleep." The way to test this is: engine off key on drivers door open. turn key to the off position and leave in ignition. then without opening the circut attach the amp meter between the posative battery cable and the battery. then remove the key, close the door and set the alarm. the amp meter will drop draw reading in stages as each system shut down. total time is 45min. you should read 20m amps if higher you have a draw. remember to have all doors and trunk lid closed when performing this test. common issues are water ingress into the trunk affecting the power dist. box. ( next to the spare, holding the fuses.) check for corrision in this area.
