I have a 2003 x-type purchased when new.

OAT (Organic Acid Technology) coolant (usually orange in color) such as Dex-Cool is the preferred coolant type. This is the kind of coolant that is put in the car when new.

I use Zerex Dex-Cool. It comes in a silver container. Supposedly lasts 5 years/150K miles.

I have also used the standard green coolant in this car. This is the old IAT (Inorganic Acid Technology) that American cars had prior to 1995 and some still use today. But 6-7 years ago, I switched back to the orange coolant and stayed with that type. Technically, you're not "supposed" to switch types , but I have not had any problems with my cooling system. When I made the switch back to orange, I had the system completely flushed before adding the new coolant, which is always a good idea.

If the housings are made of plastic, you can drill 3 holes 1/8 inch in the underside. This will allow them to drain as well as keep moisture from building up.

Limp mode is controlled by the ecm (electronic control module). The ecm sets a trouble code (DTC) when there is a problem with a sensor or its connection/wires. Remove the battery cable for a minute or so will reset the ecm code. Check the connections/wires first and post back with the code.

You have to take the bumper out. Watch for hidden clips behind the bumper and work slowly. After removing the bumper taking headlight assembly out is as easy as removing couple of screws.

Before you do that make sure you check both the bulbs and fuses for the headlights. Each light has it's own fuse

The door latches must need replacing. My 2002 X Type front door latches failed before the car hit 100K miles.

Mine did this and come to find out it needed a EGR valve. manifold caused this to come on.

Ok, i have found the answer i was looking for and for anyone who needs to know the answer to this question; the side light bulbs are in the same housing as the dipbeam headlamps and they simply just pull out, be carefull not to pull the cables, they may be a little tight so a good tug Amy be needed.

You've got the same fingers the mechanic has don't you!? First unclip the two metal brackets holding the rubber boot that covers the back of the headlamp fixture and remove it.

Locate the bulb you wish to change and turn to release it.

Change the bulb and reassemble.

After unscrewing the black plastic cover you will see a metal arm that can move up and down. I had UK lights fitted as such the arm was in a position for the uk

roads. I had to go through a check in Holland

and they confirmed the headlights wouldn't pass with current position. So I adjusted the lever. If I remember correctly, the lever for the right headlight (as you sit the in car) was moved up and the left headlight lever was moved down. The dutch authority checked the lights again with a special piece of apparatus to measure the beam . They confirmed the lights now passed for continental roads. I asked them if it was now configured the same as the European

headlights and surprisingly he said no. He told me that the lever had adjusted the beam from UKroad configuration to a neutral configuration were the beam is straight . So its not entirely continental. Normal continental headlights have a beam specific for the continental roads, they are not straight. However the neutral configuration is permitted in Holland.

This is why it was accepted and

I did not have to replace the headlights with continental ones.

There are two big fuel tanks near the back of the car. It is located inside the tanks.

There are two fuse boxes. One is in the engine compartment beside the battery, just behind front left headlight area. The other one is underneath the dashboard left of the steering wheel.

Probably the brake light switch is bad. The brake light switch is what sends the unlock signal when you step on the brake to move the gear selector.

It means the computer has dropped into failsafe mode (fuel /air /timing) parameters because there is a problem, get the codes read to see what the problem is (you prob have an engine light as well)
