It's a pretty common problem, first check the rubber boot that is around your shifter ( not the top one, the one under that ) many times pressure from the rubber bunching up will make it pop out.
Otherwise you'll be looking at a rebuild soon, the fork or collar for that gear is worn out, can't really say why except that the ax5 is famous for it.
A good indication of the fork being bad would be if reverse is affected too.

Take side and back windows out by unzipping them release the levers behind each sunviser and fold top down. Unzip and remove rear side windows. Unzip to the left and remove rear window. Pull tabs above door windows out of door frame channel. Release clasps above windshield under sunvisors. Lift front of top about 3 to 4 inchs. Pull rear corners down from body channel, and fold corners up on top of roof. From the front fold the roof all the way back, making sure it folds up neatly and evenly. Remove upper door frame by taking out bolts with large knobs on top of frame. To put back up, reverse above steps. It will take longer getting all the flanges seated properly.
