Jimmy Carter

He's a Christian. Former president Carter is a lifelong devout Baptist. At the present time, he teaches Sunday school and serves as a deacon at a Baptist Church in Georgia.

He is also currently involved in a high profile campaign to unite Baptists of all races, cultures and convention affiliations.

The Carter administration foreign policy stemmed from recognizing human abuse in other countries. One of Carter's initiatives was to eliminate U.S. aid to Latin America's abusive leader which was President Somoza of Nicaragua.

In Ford's case, he pardoned Nixon. That was very unpopular with a large part of the American people. In Jimmy Carter's case, he wound up looking weak and ineffective with the Iran Hostage situation.

In September, 1978, Egypt and Israel signed the Camp David Accords, a peace agreement designed to reduce hostilities in the Middle East.

To grow a bank you must fund loans. To fund a loan, you must have money. To have money in the bank, you must have depositors that provide that money. Before CRA was established, banks were advertising to small businesses and minorities. These people and business owners would then open up checking and savings accounts, and eventually want a small loan or two aswell. When push came to shove, these banks were not lending back to the small business owners or the minorities, for unknown reasons (ECOA also helped push CRA along). The election of 1800 was significant because another party came into power after eight years. It was the first time there was transition of power in the new nation and it was peaceful. It has been ever since.

President Carter's response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was to use all media available to condemn the Soviets' action. Additionally, he made the decision that the USA would not participate in the Olympics held in the Soviet Union. Finally, he began seeking covert channels for sending help to the Afghans. That Carter stood up to the Soviets, the way was paved whereby Soviet Satellites were emboldened to began thinking in terms of breaking away from the USSR, which was artificially conceived and held together by military might and not collective will of the people in these satellites. Carter's actions in this matter put the first crack in the USSR.

Jimmy Carter won the 1976 presidential election defeating Gerald Ford. In the 1976 presidential election Jimmy Carter received 297 electoral votes and Gerald Ford received 240 electoral votes. The popular vote totals were Carter 40,830,763 and Ford 39,147,793.

Ronald Reagan won the 1980 presidential election defeating incumbent President Jimmy Carter. In the 1980 presidential election Ronald Reagan received 489 electoral votes and Jimmy Carter received 49 electoral votes. The popular vote totals were Reagan 43,904,153 and Carter 35,483,883.

Jimmy Carter's foreign policy was based on diplomacy. Jimmy Carter did extensive work on trying to broker peace in the Middle East between Israel and its neighbors.

John Kennedy was the next president after Eisenhower.
