The engines are a totally different design but the crankshaft design of both can be traced back to 1958 at least. The 300tdi and the 200tdi will fit your gearbox except one bolt which you leave out, you will need to move one engine mount and make up the exhaust and wiring loom to suit.
The 300tdi will not fit behind the grille of a 2A without a lot of custom plumbing for the radiator. The 300tdi block is longer than the 2.25l or 200tdi motors.
Ideally, the 200tdi is the correct retrofit for a 2A.

Most likely your alarm ecu has broken loose from the mounted position, if its loose and gets knocked around. It will turn on the hazard lights, thinking that you have had a impact related to an accident. Easy check remove the trim panel below the glove box. and look for a green box maybe 1" thick by 5" long. give it a wiggle and see if it moves. If so simply get some zip-ties and strap the box down so it cant get knocked around.

ANSWER: Only if you like walking. It will ping and bang, and if you continiously use regular unleaded gas, Its going to blow your engine up! When it says to use premium gas in a Land Rover, you should take it exactly for what it says. AND NO YOU CAN NOT USE REGULAR GAS AND ADD OCTANE BOOSTER TO IT!! It causes excessive engine stress and will cause nothing but problems. The land rover engine is designed to run on a higher combustion ratio than most vehicles and using regular unleaded will not allow the air to fuel ratio to be sustained.

The early series 3 has a single speed rotary switch on the right of the steering wheel, and later ones had a two speed switch.
