There is a drain in the bottom of the pan, undo the bolt and let out the old fluid.

Then take the pan off, six 10mm bolts spaced evenly around it. You may also have to undo the filler tube/ dip stick tube.

Then remove the filter, held in by three Torx bits. Put in a new filter, clean the magnet in the pan and replace the pan gasket, these come as a kit.

When the pan is on fill it up with auto trans fluid to the height of the filler tube hole, then start the engine and fill it up to that height again, then drive the car until it is warm and ensure the level is still ok.

There are many different ones on the dash. They are colour coded as follows:

Green: Informative. ie. signal lights, trailer light.

Yellow: soft warning lights. The vehicle can still be driven, but there is something that you should be informed of or possibly have checked. ie. service light. diff lock light.

Red: serious warning lights. The vehicle should be shut down and parked. Have the matter attended to immediately to avoid damage or incidents. Have it checked by a professional. ie. low coolant, low brake fluid.

Blue: Reserved for your high beams. This means your high beam lights are on. Turn them off for approaching vehicles.

For specific warning lights, refer to your Owners' Manual, or post a description.

my landrover freelander 2004 1.8 petrol,is averaging 27 to 30mpg.and ive been told if you take the 4wheel drive shaft of it can increase your miles by another 5 to 8 mpg,the best answer is to get it converted to gas/petrol,costs around £1100.then you get simular mpg,maybe slightly less mpg but gas is almost half the price of petrol..

series 3 gearboxes have synchromesh on 1st and 2nd

Addendum: Synchromesh meaning you don't have to double-clutch them like the earlier gearboxes. they are also a stronger transmission.
