How do you increase your memory?

Here are some ideas:

  1. Make sure you are eating and sleeping well. It is hard to remember things when you are exhausted and malnourished.
  2. Get memory enhancing supplements from your local vitamin shop. Ginkgo Biloba, fish oil, L-Carnitine, and choline are some of the products available.
  3. Use your memory more. The brain is much like a muscle, and the more you use it, the better it becomes.
  4. Build your self-confidence and particularly confidence in your memory. Part of your ability to remember it dependent on your ability to trust it. If you don't think you can learn or remember something, chances are, you won't.
  5. Memory tricks (mnemonics) can help you to remember things that are difficult to remember.

Here are some common mnemonics tricks:

If you cannot remember a person's name, find a way to connect their name to something about them. You may have to slur their name to make it fit. For instance, if a lady's name is Veronica and she has a sunny disposition, you might remember that she is "Very Nice," and that is only 2 letters different from Veronica. Or if her name is Helen, and she has red hair (or at least a nasty disposition), you could associate her with Hell. The main risk is accidentally blurting out your reminder word.

If you are giving a speech and need to remember your outline, then make up a sentence using the first letter of each of your main points. The sentence will be easier to remember than your list of points. This can also help where you have to remember ordered lists

A number of hard to remember facts have standardized mnemonics. To remember the bass clef in music, you can use "Gold Buttons Dress Fine Actors" to remember the lined notes, and "All Cars Expect Grease" to remember the spaces. Then the first ledger line above the bass clef or below the treble clef is middle C. For the treble clef, you can use "Every Good Boy Does Fine" for the lines, and "FACE" to remember the notes in the spaces.

For remembering what the colors on resistors (type of electronics component) mean, there is a sexist stanza - Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls, But Violet Gives it Willingly. That line gives the first letter of each color in order of value. Black means 0, brown is 1, red is two, continuing with orange (3), yellow (4), green (5), blue (6), violet (7), grey (8), and white (9). There are other (less offensive) mnemonics phrases for remembering resistor codes.

If you play a game where you have to remember positions around a circle, you might do better to convert the object locations to clock positions.

How can you be a class clown without getting in trouble?

A word about being the "class clown"

Many people think that they always have to be funny in order to make other people like them, or to distract others and themselves from their emotions. This doesn't work - always having a smart remark or a comeback line can get very annoying!

If you are using jokes and smart remarks as a way to avoid dealing with your stress and your emotions, I encourage you to try healthier ways of dealing - cognitive behavioral therapy has worked for me and for many, many people that I know personally. It helps you un-learn bad habits you have for dealing with life and learn new healthy habits instead.

There is a big difference between joking because you enjoy being a comedian and joking to distract attention from the fact that you're really miserable inside!

Here are some tips to help you be funny at school without getting in trouble

  • Don't interrupt. If you have something funny to say, be sure that you are not interrupting the teacher or another student. If your class is fairly serious, you might even raise your hand to be called upon by the teacher before you tell everyone your joke
  • Watch the people around you. You can tell by facial expressions and body language if other people think you are being funny or being annoying. If you are getting a lot of frowns, groans, and people looking away, you should save the clown act for later - see below also.
  • Save the funny act for later. If you are good at acting silly, horseplay, and things like funny walks or imitations, save that for lunch, recess, or other times when you have lots of free time and more people who can enjoy it. Doing something like that during class is interrupting and keeps everybody from learning.
  • Try acting. Many professional comedians get their start by being funny on stage at school. Check out your drama department or acting club. Ask around to see if there is a talent show where you could try out your comedy routine. See if you can start a joke-telling contest or "who can make the silliest face" contest or anything at all to get other people involved.
  • Study comedy. Professional comedians study other comedians. They do a lot of research to find out what is funny and what is not. They try out jokes a lot of different ways before they put them into their act. You can start learning about comedy now, and try out some of the things you learn at school.

What are the ways to enrich learning of the pupils?

It all really depends on the group of children you have, teaching/learning styles etc. Here are a few things off the top of my head: Finding out each child's interests and what motivates them. Goal setting - sharing and explaining results to children and parents and bringing them aboard to help each child as a team. Having high but realistic expectations - letting the children set their own expectations Reflection time - let the learning sink in Discussion - talking about issues, both planned and unplanned discussions about things that are meaningful Remembering that each child has a different style of learning and catering for that style Being enthusiastic Going for a run around outside - get the blood flowing Monitoring how the children are going - if they are getting tired or losing focus, change activity for a few minutes Letting children take responsibility for their learning and actions. Keeping to a routine, and structured timetable. Planning and learning with the children, discussing learning intentions and success criteria Not talking down to children! Talk at their level but don't belittle them.

Is there a supplement for being tired a lot that help?

The best way to NOT be tired is to get enough sleep - kids and teens need 10-12 hours every night to feel rested and be alert in class. Adults need 6-8 hours.

If you do not eat properly - if you eat lots of junk food and "energy" drinks and sodas, then you need to take a multivitamin every day. That will also give you some energy because your body needs good nutrition.

Also, be sure to exercise some every day, because being flabby and out of shape makes you tired.
