Are mercury vapor light bulbs which cycle on and off through out the night energy efficient vs fluorescent flood lights mounted on a motion detecting fixture?

First, if your Mercury vapor lights are cycling on and off you probably have a bad ballast. Any ballasted bulb will be much less efficient when cycling on and off. The greatest amount of power is used when the power is first transmitted through the gas within the bulb. Second, Florescent bulbs are just about as efficient as mercury vapor lumen for lumen. Hope this helps Terry

How do lamps or lanterns work?

What does mol mean in light bulbs?

MOL refers to MAXIMUM OVERALL LENGTH.

MOL is Maximum Overall Length measurement.

MOL of bulb is measured from top of bulb to bottom of Bulb base (or bottom of pins.) Exception is if bulb has flexible wire leads, then measurement does NOT include the length of wires.

Actual bulb is likely shorter (sometimes much, much shorter) than the MOL industry standard specification.

Can you get replacement LED bulbs for Allen and Roth low voltage light?

Seeing as how Lowes no longer stocks these, and 4 of mine did not live past a year I was wondering the same thing. Allen Roth doesn't seem to have their own website so I haven't been able to contact them. Hopefully someone else can help...

Update 5/11/2014 - Allen & Roth provides a phone number for replacement parts 1-866-439-9800.

How many chiropractors does it take to change a light bulb?

It only takes one chiropractor to change a lightbulb, but it takes nine visits.

And it's not covered by your insurance.

How many formula one drivers does it take to change a light bulb?

It takes one mechanic to turn the light off, a second to get the new bulb out of storage, two more to get it out of its packaging (4 total), a second three with a back up bulb (7 total), one mechanic to loosen the old bulb (8), two to remove it (10), two to put the new bulb in (12), one to tighten the new bulb (13), one to turn the light back on (14) and two standing by with fire extinguishers (CO2 or powder, obviously).

So it takes 16 pit stop mechanics to change a lightbulb. Oh! And one driver to take the credit when it works.

Alternatively: 1 to change it. 1 to try and change it, but run into mechanical problems part way through. 1 to try to change it but accidentally lose control and run into the wall and 1 to say he could have done it faster if he had the right bulb.

What are the safety precautions when changing light bulbs?

  • Turn off the power

First make sure the power is turned off. The safest way to do this is to switch the large red power button to 'off' on the fuse box.

  • Let it cool

Allow the bulb to cool before touching it.

  • Use a ladder

Ensure you can safely reach the bulb by using a stepladder; always use a non conductive stepladder - for example, made of fibreglass. If the light fitting is too high to reach with a stepladder you may need to have use of a mobile elevating work platform - if so please contact Store Operations

  • Ensure the area has sufficient light to enable the change to be done safely. This cannot be done in darkness - if necessary arrange an appropriate light source
  • Wear protective eyewear. The bulb's glass may be broken or cracked, so protect your eyes!

I am trying to make a simple balloon detonator using an rf remote but the instruction states i need small gauge filament what is this?

A small gauge filament is a thin wire with a high melting point, just like the filament in light bulbs. That filament will heat up when electricity will pass through it. If you have enough battery power, I would suggest using a piece if pencil lead.
