How do I gain permissions to the files on my external hard drive? I backed up my Mac (OSX Snow Leopard) on my Transcend 1tb

and wiped my Mac, and replaced the 'Application Support' Folder with my old one. I had to go and do 'get info' for many of the folders and give my new account permissions to 'read and write'. There are still problems however, for example I am unable to open my old apps, and when I try to torrent files, it I'm unable to collect the magnet link (it says 50% before stopping and saying you do not have permissions). Sorry, but a Mac OS is not intended to run on non-Mac Hardware. So a Mac running on Windows based PC will not work as you would hope. It will also break EULA with Apple and that's just not cool...

The Mac OS (Apples's operating system) and Windows are two separate operating systems. Neither runs on top of the other, technically. However, there are emulators, both hardwired as well as software-based so that the Mac can run Windows software. Generally, you have to partition your hard drive on the Mac to accommodate both the Mac OS and the emulated Windows environments, then re-boot to exit the current operating system and enter the other.

You would have to check with the current emulation hardware and/or software specs out there to know for certain which Windows versions (i.e. XP, Vista, 7, etc.) are currently supported. Parallels is a virtual machine emulator you can put any virtual OS into it without disturbing your Mac OS X system setup. Bootcamp is used when you are installing windows natively on the mac.

Downloads do not fail on Mac OS X. Apple will be supplying the next version of Mac OS X as a download. Perhaps you have a problem with your connection or there is a problem with the source of the download.

I think the latest virus to hit Mac OSX was MACDefender, which was a program posing as an anti-virus for your Mac. Apple has since sent out a security patch and it is no longer a threat.
