Well, they need the simple pet care, food, water, exercise, and love. But in the puppy stage, they can be hard to potty train. They are more of a indoor dog, they don't need that much exercise, but a couple walks a week work. Maltese are agile dogs, so that means they can jump, run, leap, etc. well. I would suggest a well covered cage for them.

My 8 month old son gets 3 7oz bottles a day with 3 meals. Breakfast is a small jar of fruit and rice cereal. lunch is usually 1 jar of fruit, and dinner is a stage 2 jar of meat meal with a stage 2 jar of veggies. No Maltese can not live outside they will become very sad and afraid. My Maltese was put outside all winter because, it was abused and we rescued it and is timid to go outside. (I am so happy we got a Maltese!)

Look at the tail. Poms carry their tail high over the back or curled. Chihuahua tails are sickle shaped. Pom tails are much stiffer. They do not bend as easily as a Chihuahua's tail.

Now feel the dog. Chihuahuas can have double coats that are very fluffy, and poms can have coats that are very flat, but you are feeling for the texture of the guard hair. Poms have a coarse outer coat that is stiff to the touch and very dense. It should be a little difficult to feel all the way down to the skin of the dog. BUt despite all the differences it can be hard to tell due to sometimes poor breeding. Both dogs are meant to be 2-6 pounds, (1-2kg), both dogs can come in any color, both have the same popular colors of fawn, sable, black and tan, brindle, merle, solid color, piebald. Chihuahuas are healthier overall and longer lived by 2 years on average. Pomeranianas tend to be more timid.

We have an adorable Cockapoo-Beagle mix, and we lovingly call her a "Cockapoogle", just something we made up, of course. My fil teases "Ba-Spoodle". I did see somewhere on the Internet, and I can't recall where, that it is a "Coodle", however, when I checked, I found that is the name of a Border Collie and French Poodle mix.
