Hi, I use to own my very own Shop and I can tell you first hand, because of the size of parts today and the overall cost, we have become a throw away society.

I'm old school and I use to dig into the PC boards and work on them taking out parts and putting them back. Today you just pull the PC board out and toss it.

PC by the way is not Personal Computer. It means-- Printed Circuit Board.

Much of the parts on PC boards today are what is called surface mounted. Trust me, if you drop these tiny surface mount parts on the floor...Kiss it good bye you will not be able to find them on the floor. A tech I knew dropped 108 parts onto a carpet floor and we never found them. This is much of why shops go out of business. Old school techs like me are dying out fast.It's faster, less labor and lower cost to pull a board out and toss it then slide a new one in. Just look at some of the Brand New flat phones coming out. I would not even attempt a repair.

Project Management involves management of three variables in a project - cost, time and performance (sometimes cited as quality or scope). Conventional managerial models such as Gantt Charts and CPM/PERT Networks consider modelling project in terms of time alone. Earned value management is an attempt to integrate cost and time variables into professional project management.

The essence is to represent value (in terms of cost of project) against time of execution as a graph called planned value curve during planning of a project.
