What are the symptoms of menopause?
The Psychological Symptoms of Menopause are key as well. Many women experience extreme mood swings, anxiety, depression and irritability, to name a few. It is important that women have someone they can talk to about their symptoms as a spouse, partner or friends may become frustrated listening to the issues. Women should consider joining a support group or seeking counseling to assist them through the emotional changes that occur during menopause. Many women find that menopause occurs at the same time they are raising children, managing careers and caring for aging parents. This makes menopause overwhelming for women and their families. I would suggest talking with your doctor and seeking counseling if needed. There are a lot of good sites with helpful information and iTherapyRX.com is a good website to find a counselor. We all need someone to talk to.

I sure wish that there was a simple answer to this question. Every woman is different - there is no" one size fits all" answer. There is simply no set age that every woman begins perimenopause and menopause. (I call it PM&M for short.)
The peri part can be a 6 -10 year process. During that time your hormone levels begin taking a nose dive - south! When your hormones drop you can begin experiencing all kinds of weird changes. Once you have been without your period for a whole year - then you have reached menopause.
First, find a doctor that specializes in PM&M.
A good way to determine if you are in PM&M is to have your hormone levels checked.
During PM&M our hormones take a dive south! Lowestrogen can cause crying, tension, hyper-sensitivity, mood swings, depression, poor self esteem, inability to concentrate, anxiousness, outbursts of anger, sleep disturbances, joint aches and pains, night sweats, hot flashes...just to name a few! Low testosterone can cause fatigue, dry skin, low libido and headaches. Some women experience next to no symptoms...some experiences many of these.
Menopause can happen pretty much anytime after about 35 years old. As the estrogen & Testosterone start to slowly decline over time, the body enters early stage menopause, often called Peri-menopause.
Contrary to the general thinking, Menopause is not an event, it is a process, with VERY imprecise parameter's. Best to think of it this way, If you are having symptoms, you are on the road to menopause, get ready for the Hot Flashes, night sweats, joint pain, insomnia, loss of libido, vaginal dryness & moody, irritable & cranky.
Your Dr will do a Blood Test for you that measures FSH & Estrogen. Most don't know to look at your TESTOSTERONE, but your body makes Estrogen from Testosterone & if that is low, your symptoms will be worse.
Think seriously about doing Hormone Replacement Therapy, with what is called Pellet Therapy, The estrogen most OB/GYNs prescribe is SYNTHETIC & has been linked to cancer.
