oil filter on a 380sl: directly under the left side of the engine, you'll see an aluminum cylinder with a 13mm hex nut on the bottom. This is the housing for the oil filter. When replacing the cartdridge, make sure the filter kit comes with the large rubber o-ring and a couple of copper washers. You should not use the old ones to avoid leakage.


VIN #: yes, VIN numbers provide all sorts of information...the model number, engine type, paint, options, year, etc. You should be able to go to your local MB dealer for the information. I was able to get this information years ago, so it should still be available. You can always try the MBUSA or MBNA.com as well.


450 sl bumper removal:


The front bumper and the rear bumper are pretty much the same as far as repair or removal. The bumpers are held onto the car via the bumper shocks....which absorb low speed contact...and sometimes they do leak...and they are expensive to replace...


Anyway...4 nuts from each of those shocks attach the actual bumper to the car. the bumper ends (those big rubber caps on each side of the bumpers) are attached through the wheel wells by one nut...and a rubber bushing. These bumpers are fairly easy to remove...remember to disconnect the front turn signal lights and fog lights electronics. You shouldn't need to worry about the plastic molding between the bumper and the body...its not in the way. You should also get a friend to help with this project because the bumper is heavier than you might think...and its clumsy...those bumpers are built for tank use by the way they're designed.

Dwell Angle is 30 - 40 deg, timing at idle with vacuum 8-12 deg BTDC, at idle wihout vacuum TDC, at 1500 RPM without vacuum 15-19 deg BTDC, and 3000 rpm withou vac 30 deg BTDC, Vac should be removed from the distributor and plugged. Plug gaps are 0.8 mm (20 thou). No 1 cylinder for your timing light is the first on the left bank, idel speed is 700-800 RPM. I have just replaced the right hand bank plugs, and just that has made my 350SL much sweeter, but they are a sod to get to, and removing the plug caps was a real chore. If you do buy new plugs mine requiiered the type with the screwed top removed, so be careful what you buy. Good luck, I have all of this to look forward to. Info is from the American Haynes manual (350 & 450 1971thru 1980). Your car should have contact breaker points, for which a gap is not given, so its whatever gap you need to get the dwell angle.

For a 129 model: You don't need to unlock it...it's an automatic system...fully electronic. There's a switch in the center console, near the shift gate. You press the button...keep it pressed, and the roof will start to unlatch itself from the front, the back part of the roof will flip up, and the boot cover will open. The top will then fold itself into the boot, and the cover will close itself. That's it. It takes about 15 seconds for this to cycle. For a 107 model: Flip down the visors. Above the visors are chrome, slotted bolts...one on each side. Take the top tool (in the tool kit) or a flat blade screw driver and insert the tool into the slot, and pull towards you. This will unbolt the top.

There are 2 pumps, in the rear, under car on passenger side, mounted together with the filter.

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has double overhead cam (DOHC).

The fuse panel is located on the left (passenger) side kick panel. Above it there are two rows of relays, it is the top relay in the row of three.

The fuse box is located on the right side of the passenger leg area. You'll see a little square panel that pops off. In other words...when you're sitting in the passenger seat, look where your right foot will be, and directly to the right of your foot, will be that panel.

unlock the tabs located around the cover and there are two filters inside use care and patience when putting back together it can be tough....

OBDII Connector on 2003 SL500 is under the driver's-side dashboard just inboard from the hood release lever. It is under a small black plastic door that must be pulled open to expose the connector

I have mercedes sl 129 soft top and roll bars not working .my friend contuct the booster on 24v not 12v by mistake , and he told me he saw a smoke near the battrey but not fuses.what do you thing?

The C63 only comes in a 7-Speed Automatic transmission. There are variant of the C-Class that come with a 6-Speed Manual transmission but they are all smaller engine sizes and or diesel engines

Its somewhat unorthodox! This car has a cartridge style oil filter. not the traditional oil filter that most of us are used to buying. Stand at the front of the car with the hood open, look to the left side of the engine. [passenger side] around the second cylinder front to back. you Will see structure that looks like s soda can it is a aluminum structure with a bolt in the center of it's top cover. If you loosen the bolt you will be able to change the canister inside the cylindrical structure. This filter is not that hard to find at your local parts store. [FYI] when you change the filter take the TOP of the box off and put it in your glove compartment. The next time you need a filter you will have the correct product number at your fingertips.

All these 107 body cars - produced for almost 20 yars - as 280/350/380/450/560/500 SL at different stages vary a lot. Making them very common...as in a dime a dozen. The 560 is the most valued with the 500(euro) second. Depending on condition, mileage, colors and such they can be bought for as little as $3500 and the high end would be around $20,000...an exceptional on maybe more.

It isn't necessary to use premium fuel but you can use it.

According to design and manufacturers recomendations it is required. Certainly it may run on other grades..but it is a machine that can do it's best with premium. Your instrument cluster even has a notice saying use premium only.

------------- I asked a Mercedes dealer this before, and he says that using non-premium fuel will eventually end up damaging your engine, so you probably should avoid doing that. -.-

The seats in the early SL's are all manual. The only thing you need to address first are the seat belt warning light sensor cables underneath the seat. Just pull the connector apart.

Then, slide the seat as far forward as you can. There are the seat tracks on each side of the seat, and yours might have the plastic trim caps on the ends. Remove the caps...they just pop off. Then, inside the tracks, at each end, you should find a 13mm hex bolt. Take the two rear bolts off first, then the front.

Wiggle and lift the seat straigh up...unless you're big and strong, you're going to need help lifting these seats out of the car. They're heavy, but movable. Watch out for the seat tracks...they might slide out, and make it more difficult to manipulate the seat's removal. Be careful when you remove the seat, not to damage the interior pieces.

You might have to be patient in getting these seats out...you have to move them to that one, perfect spot...and then they just come right out. As long as your taking the seats out...you might want to re-lube the tracks...and tighten up whatever you see...you know...give your seats, frames and tracks a tune up.

the 107 MB SL seats have 3 adjustments.

1. there's a handle on the front right of the seat for back and forth

2. there's a knob on the seat's outside...big black knob. turn that knob for

the seat's recline angle....the passenger seat, when moved up, will recline

almost flat.

3. the driver's seat can be adjusted for height. this adjustment is on the seat's

track under the seat pad. You need a large flat blade screwdriver to turn the cylinder for the desired

height.

4. and there were no 107's with electric seat controls, all manual.

there is a primary hood release lever in the driver's side kick panel and a secondary release accessed through the star on the front grill. First release the hood from the lever inside the car and then reach through the driver's side of the hood star to release the secondary latch

Mercedes does not use DIPSTICKS provided to the end-user. Their belief is if they make it available, you will not brig the car to them for service.. If you choose to purchase one on your own, the spout is on the right side of the engine, in most Mercedes models, and has a simple black plastic or red plastic cap on it. Lift the cap of, please the dipstick in and you had better find out the well depth of you model as shallow pans are generally wider and deeper pans are usually more rectangular. Just putting a dipstick in and taking a reading will not give you the correct information, and over-filling the tank will cause a pump tp blow. Hope that gives you enough to go on and prevents most of you from attempting this yourself.

the battery terminals are on the battery, obviously...the battery is in the trunk, on the right side underneath a cover. The battery connections can be found underneath the hood, in the engine compartment, on the right side, right behind the big round radiator reservoir. You'll see a little black plastic box with two big cables ....

Round object with wing nut. Be careful not to damage gasket. Easy task!
