Terminology is important here! The only person who can "deliver" a baby is the mother! Midwives (or physicians) simply catch!

A mid-wife is a RN that has had special training in dthe delivery of infants. A doctor is a MD who has completed 4 years of medical school and at least 5 years of residency in that specific field - there is a BIG difference between the two.

A midwife can work in a hospital (if she is a certified nurse midwife), at a birthing center, or even in the clients own home. It is all about what make the mom to be feel the most comfortable.

The only way to become a doctor is through medical school, although you may be able to get other qualifications through lesser programs.

There are many tasks that a Midwife is responsible for during the delivery of a baby. Some of the most predominant tasks of the Midwife is to encourage family members to help the mother push the baby, monitoring the mother during labor and monitoring the condition of the fetus.

Nurse-Midwives (CNM) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) are both Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) with a Master's degree in nursing (MSN). There are two other types of APNs, Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS). All four types of APNs take some of the same basic MSN classes such as pathophysiology, pharmacology, advanced physical assessment, research, theory, etc. After these basic classes students specialize as Midwives, NPs, CRNAs or CNSs. Nurse-Midwives are not nurse practitioners, however they can perform some of the same functions as NPs in the birth setting such as ordering diagnostic tests, and writing related prescriptions. Some CNMs may choose to become certified as NPs by going back to school and taking the classes and clinical rotations NPs take, or vice versa some NPs may later decide to become certified as CNMs. In 2015, all APNs, including nurse practitioners and nurse-midwives, will be required to graduate with the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) instead of the master's (MSN) degree, in order to become certified.

A midwife can get paid as much as 75,000 a year depending if she works in a clinic or her own private practice. They usually don't charge by the hour, but by each birth that they do.

Yes. A midwife degree is a concentration after the completion of the RN (registered nurse). In the US, it typically takes 2.5 years to obtain the initial degree. The midwife classification can take 2-3 years of additional study.

For an individual to land a job as a midwife they would have to complete a degree in midwifery. Moreover, they will need excellent communication skills as well as good people skills because they are looking after pregnant women and it would be very well for them to communicate with them to make sure that the job is done in a proper manner.

Advantages of utilising the nursing process are ensuring that the care patients receive is planned, ensuring it meets their individual and specific needs, ensuring the continuity of care amongst professionals as they would all follow a specific plan and providing a clearer idea about the effectiveness of the interventions by a review of whether the outcomes of care have been achieved (WHO, 1999).

There are no numbers on this since it's not a sure science, just hoping for the best. Castor oil does not give you contractions directly, it gives you diarrhea. Those cramps are believed to sometimes bring on labor but usually it's just you sitting on the toilet with the runs. So stay away from the oil and start taking walks, have sex and eat spicy food if you want to try to induce by yourself. They think it's better for the body to start by itself though. Be patient.

In the UK and over there they are called men-midwives.

In Canada they are called "midwifes" regardless of gender.

In the 19th century husbands were not allowed to present at the birth of their children,so a woman who delivered the baby would wait upstairs ,outside the door on the landing,when the wife was ready to have the baby the woman would come in and deliver the child..hence the name Midwife.
