What best explains the decision of the Mormons to settle in Utah Territory?

We don't have "the following", so we can't answer this question very well, but the reason the Mormon pioneers had to leave their previous homes in New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois is because they were kicked out or forced to leave due to extreme persecution. The reason why they moved to Utah is because God lead them there, Joseph Smith had prophesied they would have to move to the Rocky Mountains, and they wanted to go to a land that nobody else wanted so that they wouldn't risk having large groups of people move in and repeat the persecution they had faced elsewhere.

How many BYU university's are there?

There are three. Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah is the largest and most well-known. Brigham Young University-Idaho is in Rexburg, Idaho. It was called "Ricks College" until about 2004. Brigham Young University - Hawaii is in Laie, Hawaii. It used to be called "Church College of Hawaii".

Why did the Mormons have to move from place to place before settling in Utah?

The Mormons moved from New York to Ohio to Missouri to Illinois to Utah because they faced violent persecution and in some cases were kicked out of their homes or were asked to leave by the government. At the time that the Mormons arrived, Utah was only inhabited by a handful of (mostly friendly) Native American tribes and was outside the jurisdiction of the US Government, which meant that the Mormons could finally practice their religion in peace.

Do mormons give wedding rings during the ceremony?

Most members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) do choose to exchange rings for their weddings, but it is considered optional.

If they are getting married in the temple, exchanging rings is not a part of the actual sealing ceremony, but following the ceremony they can choose to exchange rings in the sealing room in the temple in front of their officiant and guests, or they can have a separate ring ceremony later at a different location, often as part of a reception or wedding dinner. Many Mormons whose family could not attend the temple ceremony choose to have a ring ceremony later so that they can include their loved ones in the celebration.

Did Mitt Romney receive a salary as mormon president?

Mitt Romney served for several years as the leader of a Mormon congregation (Bishop) and as the leader of a local group of congregations (Stake President) in Massachusetts in the 1990's.

Mormon clergy never recieves a salary. Although Mitt Romney was required to devote 20+ hours a week to his church duties, he received absolutely no payment for this service and was required to also work a full-time job to support his family.

Within the Mormon Church, every member is assigned a duty, such as leading a congregation, teaching a class, cleaning the building, or providing music. Everyone works together to make the congregation operate. These responsibilities are assigned (there is no applying or campaigning for higher positions), the responsibilities rotate, and nobody gets paid. It is simply expected of church members to contribute to their congregation. You can learn more about this at the "Related Links" below.

Do mormons believe in getting the holy ghost and speaking in touges?

Yes, but not in the way that many Pentecostal and Protestant churches do.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe in the Bible, which says that speaking in tongues is one of the gifts or manifestations of the Spirit of God. (See 1 Corinthians 12:10) Also, one of their articles of faith states "We believe in the gift of tongues, prophesy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth."

Mormons believe that the gift of tongues comes when one needs to bear witness of Christ to someone who does not speak the same language. Stories of the gift of tongues are often told by Mormon missionaries who are sent to places where they are unfamiliar with the language, but somehow the people they are teaching still understand them - much like the story found in Acts 2.

Joseph Smith said, "The ultimate design of the gift of tongues is to speak to foreigners."

What attracted the LDS Mormon settlers to Utah?

The Mormon pioneers moved to Utah for several reasons. First, the prophet Joseph Smith prophesied that they would find protection and peace in the Rocky Mountains. Second, Utah was a place where no white people lived, and where no white people wanted to live - so they could be free from persecution. The Native Americans there were relatively friendly and willing to work together with them, allowing the Mormons to live there successfully. Third, Utah at the time was a part of Mexico. The United States government had refused to protect the Mormons and some Mormon leaders had been accused of treason when they fought for their freedom to worship, so moving to a new country was a fresh start.
