Motorcycle Gear and Apparel

Motorcycling is inherently dangerous. To deal with motorcycle safety issues, most countries require motorcyclists to use proper gear and apparels. These include certain types of helmets, jackets, gloves, pants and boots.

How do you install under armor visors on a helmet?

The wise rider typically purchases a helmet with the intent to attach it to his HEAD. Unfortunately, far too many brain injured riders had secured their helmets to some 'out of the way' point on their bike when they discovered that their skill alone was insufficient to protect their heads from impact. A helmet should be attached to the HEAD using the manufacturer's provided chin strap. Avoid aftermarket modifications as they have been shown to fail at the critical moment.

Is ce armour better than Eva foam for protection in a motorcycle jacket?

it can be.....keep in mind, ce is a standard with points to be met......so there are armours out there that dont bare the ce mark that can perform better.......there are pads out there that exceed the standard for impact but fail for shape.....so its in the air, do your research and you'll be fine

How do you install motorcycle saddlebags?

You "toss" them over the seat or rear fender.

This last guy is obviously not a biker or losing saddle bags at regular intervals. Toss overs still need to be secured.

Best leather jacket brand?

There are many brands of men's jackets available on the market. Popular brands include BOSS, The North Face, ASOS, and Nordstrom brands. One might also choose an discount brand name, such as Walmart.

Can you convert a manual motorbike into an automatic?

Anything is possible, but in cases like these it's usually more cost efficient to sell the vehicle you have and buy a vehicle with the features that you want instead. It's rarely as simple as merely replacing the tranny. Motor bikes with automatic trannys aren't that common, so you might have to search awhile.

Do you have to wear a helmet when you ride a motorcycle in new Jersey?

How fast does a Yamaha r6 go?

How identify 2stroke or 4stroke?

one huggge detail he left out is that 2 strokes have a huge belly on the header and 4 strokes do notAnswerIf the motor is running it's as easy as looking and listening. Looking for a little extra smoke (2 stroke) and listening deeper mellower sounding (4 strokes). The 2 stroke philosophy is kinda if it ain't smokin' it's broken.

Look for valve covers and external valve adjusting areas on a 4 stroke engine.Look for a separate injector-oil container (usually filled with a blueish /green oil) on the bike, or check the gas tank for evidence of pre-mix.(gas and oil mixed together) for a 2 stroke. The crankcases on a 2stroke shouldn't contain a separate oil filler either.

If I left out something I'm sure someone has more info.

Do you need a helmet to ride trike motorcycle?

What is a motorcycle helmet made of?

plastics. the shell is plastic, usually polycarbonate. the foam is usually a type of styrene, also a plastic. The nylon or polyester fabric that covers the padding is also a type of plastic. If your helmet is painted, it's probably acrylic-based; acrylic is a type of plastic.

What are the four main parts of a motorcycle?

How in depth do you want to go? The basic components common to almost every bicycle are the frame (the 'body' of the bike), wheels, handlebars, pedals, brakes, and drivetrain, which consists of the chain, crank (the legs that the pedals are attached to), front and rear derailleurs which line the chain up with whatever gear you are in, and the rear gear cog.

If you want a detailed breakdown of a bicycle and all of its componentry, I would recommend buying the Haynes Bicycle Book. This is something of a staple for DIY bicycle mechanics, and covers nearly every system and style that's been tried on a bike in the last half century, with ample use of step-by-step photographs. Just as a precaution, the book is admittedly somewhat dense - if you're not too mechanically savvy, you might find yourself a bit in over your head at first.

Will Suzuki RM 125 graphics fit on a Suzuki DRZ 125?

No because the RM125 body is way bigger than a DRZ125. A DRZ125 is about the size of an RM85.

What is the best motorcycle helmet to buy?

Here's the opinion of Timberwoof's in his Motorcycle FAQ:

The best helmet for you is one that you can afford, that fits, and that you'll wear every time you get on the motorcycle. A Snell and DOT rated helmet is just as safe as a one ... but not as comfortable on long trips. Just because a helmet isn't required in your state, don't assume that the laws of physics are any different. Get a good helmet and wear it always.

AnswerI always buy the best helmet I can, and only those that are certified for Race Track use as well, you cant put a price on your head. Living in Europe, I always buy "ACU Gold" stickered helmets, certified for racing.

If only I could afford an Arai, I would get one, so what if they're from ?350/470? or more, they have the toughest testing per batch of helmets, than any other helmet manufacturer. MotoGP, F1 & Indy Cart Racers use Arai (or Craft - but they're not road legal over here)

P.S. I don't work for Arai, I just want one.....

AnswerThe answer to this question is pretty easy... Is your head worth 24 dollars or is it worth 250 dollars?

My suggestion on buying a helmet is buy one that fits comfortable for you. I would also suggest buying two or more helmets.

One: Buy a full faced helmet. Upside: it cuts down on outside noise and provided the best protection during an accident Downside: They can be very hot in the summer and heavy during long rides.

Two: Buy a half faced helmet. Upside: They provide a level of protection but not as much protection as a full faced helmet. They are cooler in hot weather and if you wear glasses like I do it is easier to put them on. Downside: They don't offer much protection for your face in you are in accident. For long rides you can have problems with your hearing.

Three: Flip front is a very good helmet Upside:provides more protection then a half face and are more comfortable in hot weather. Since you can lift it while waiting for red lights or other long stops. Downside: They can be more noisy and cost more then full face or half faced helmets.

AnswerDon't lust after an expensive helmet (Schuberth S1 Carbon= £750-£800 ), get the one that fits properly and has all the right safety stickers(kite mark and ACU Gold). A full face will protect your jaw and chin. Flip front are great if you are going in and out of checkpoints or working as a courier/riding instructor, but they are more noisy than a full face. More mechanics=more noise. Never use a helmet that has gone past it's replacement date.

What brand of motorcycle helmet are recommended as best?

In the opinion of Timberwoof of Timberwoof's Motorcycle FAQ:: Aerostich, Joe Rocket, Tourmaster, or FirstGear.

He notes, "Leather looks sexy and works; Cordura is functional and works; Shorts and a T-shirt are an invitation to skin grafts. Jackets can be had relatively inexpensively at pawn shops or through Internet retailers. Make sure that the leather is good and thick, not the thin garment leather that most stylish leather jackets are made of."

AnswerYou will only ever get an opinion. Each and every designer will hype their product, it's business. It's more about personal choice and the motorcycling you do. My preference is textile, not just because it's waterproof and flexible, it breathes, is cool in summer warm in winter, doesn't rot and has fantastic armour built in, but also because it fits properly. I have two very different motorcycles and four jackets, The jacket with the designer label is not superior in its protection, it is on a par with the others. But it was a special gift and is only worn on special occasions. Answer:Depending on your own feelings if you decided to use leather or textiles.. I personally like leather but it can be a bit warm in the summer... So I use textiles during these months... with built in armour... My suggestion to all riders is to not just buy one coat.. Talk to your local dealers and buy what feels comfortable on you and as the seller his personal perferences. Don't buy the most expensive but don't buy the cheapest either. Their is always a happy medium...

Answer:

I agree Aerostitch makes some terrific textile gear, I've used Joe Rocket stuff in the past and over time it doesn't pass my durability expectations. My wife's Tourmaster gear (textile) is great for year round riding. If leather is what you are looking for I can't recommend Fox Creak Leather enough, just read over their testimonials on the site and if you go that route you'll be a customer for life! All their jackets have a lifetime guarantee, how many other manufactures can say that?
