What is a summary of the story of Noah?

The story of Noah is one of a family of ancient Near Eastern myths about the divine destruction of humanity, in which only one family is chosen to survive and repopulate the earth. God told Noah that he would bring a great flood to destroy all of humanity because of its sinfulness, and instructed him to build a great boat or Ark in which he and is family were to be saved. Noah took some of every living creature onto the Ark and then God made it rain for forty days. After the resulting Flood subsided and the Ark rested on Mount Ararat, Noah left the Ark and made a sacrifice to the Lord.

There are two, somewhat different stories of Noah's Flood in the Bible, that differ in details such as how many of each species were taken onto the Ark and how long the Flood lasted. The first story, attributed to the Priestly author, is Genesis 6:9-22, 7:6, 7:8-9, 7:11, 7:13-16a, 7:18-21, 7:24, 8:1-2a, 8:3b-5, 8:7, 8:13a, 8:14-19, 9:1-17. The second, attributed to the Yahwist, is in Genesis 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 7:7, 7:10, 7:12, 7:16b-17, 7:22-23, 8:2b-3a, 8:6, 8:8-12, 8:13b, 8:20-22.

Why did God kill everybody in the story of Noah's Ark?

God did not kill everyone. I believe your question is "why does everyone have to die?" The answer is found in Genesis and throughout the bible. Adam and Eve were given the opportunity to live in the Garden of Eden, free from pain, sorrow and even death. They were given the instruction to not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eve was deceived by the serpent and ate and then Adam ate. They were cast out of the garden into the world we now know, full of sorrow, pain, sickness and death. The bible says that "all have sinned (broken God's law) and fallen short of the glory of God." Also it says that "the wages of sin is death." Further it says "it is appointed for a man once to die and then the judgment." This is why everyone must die. Because of sin.

I cannot say all of this though without finishing the story. God, through His mercy and grace, sent His Son, Jesus the Christ, to pay for the sins of men (Jesus' coming was predicted exactly in the old testament prophesies). So that anyone who accepts Jesus as the payment for their sins and asks Him to be the Lord of their life will not have to die for good. They must die in this life because of the sin but they will rise again and live in His kingdom forever. In this kingdom, things will be restored to how they were meant to be (and better). There will be no sorrow, nor pain, nor death. Only happiness and peace. No worrying about money or corrupt governments or paying your bills or global turmoil. The bible says that God himself will wipe away all tears.

I hope this helps answer the question. This is a very brief answer and theologians have written volumes on this topic. I hope all who read this will explore further through the Holy Bible. Blessings to you.

What was the age of noah when he came out of the ark?

Just take a look at Genesis 6-9 to find that out. It actually gives his age very specifically. The Bible tells us he was 600 years old when he entered the ark. They lived way longer back before the flood!

Did abel get on the ark?

The time of Abraham was 2091 or 1850 B.C. from two different sources so approximately 2000 B.C. The time of the flood and Noah is from a much earlier time. Scholars and archaeologists cannot prove or disprove exactly when, where, or if the flood occurred. Most Biblical scholars leave the date for the flood as "undated".

Additional Answer:

The worldwide flood is sometimes dated as follows:

Start: 2nd Month, 17th Day, 2327 BC

Dries: 2nd Month, 27th Day, 2326 BC

Abram or Abraham is calculated to have lived as follows:

Birth: 1975 BC

Dies :1800 BC

The Flood is approximately 350yrs. before Abram.

How much did Noah's ark weigh?

The Bible says that the Ark was 2 1/2 cubits long, 1 1/2 cubits wide and 1 1/2 cubits high, and made from shittim wood, heavily overlaid with gold, with silver adornments. The mercy seat was said to have been 2 1/2 cubits long and 1 1/2 cubits wide, and made of pure gold, as were the two cherubim that surrounded it. Since gold is roughly twice as heavy as lead, the structure would have weighed several tonnes.

Jewish answer:

There are problems with the above answer:

1) The thickness of the wood is not specified in the Torah.

2) The thickness of the gold overlay is not specified.

3) There were no silver adornments.

4) The size of the cherubim and the thickness of the Ark's gold cover are not specified.

5) The cherubim might have been hollow.

6) Gold is not nearly twice the weight of lead. Its density is 1.7 times that of lead.

On which volcano did Noah's ark stop after the Flood?

After the rain stopped falling after a period of forty days and forty nights, the Ark built by Noah came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

What did Noah take on the ark?

Noah took his family. His family was made up of his wife; his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and his daughters-in-law.

And a lot more animals than you would think: GEN7:2 Of every clean beast (tahor) he took seven, the male and his female: and of unclean beasts (tamei) he took two, the male and his female. GEN 7:3 Of fowls also of the air he took seven, the male and his female.

Tahor = pure or kosher. Tamei = impure or non-kosher aka asur = forbidden.

But there were some limits:

In Genesis 7:14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings.

This allows for the inclusion of flying non-birds e.g. bats and pterodactyls, but excludes fishes, whales and seals, and, potentially, burrowing animals (moles), arboreal animals (sloths). The fate of otters and hippopotami as they are primarily aquatic and occassionally "move along the ground" is unknown

How many people did Noah take into the ark?

One thought:

According to the Bible, there were eight (1 Peter 3:20)(Genesis 7:13)

Another thought:

That is, as far as the mythology goes according to the interpreted and re-interpreted texts throughout the past, I believe just under 2,000 years (since Genesis was written a fair bit after many other books of the Bible, including, I do believe, the "Gospel" of the New Testament). But yes, the claim is that 8 people boarded the Ark, according to the scriptures, at least, what we have copies of, which I must note, are not guaranteed to be the same as the original manuscripts which are "lost" in the past.

The picture of the ark of god?

Noah's Ark has not been found and, even assuming that the story of Noah is historically accurate, it would likely have gone rotten sometime in the last 5000 years.

Another Answer

Despite much searching, Noah's Ark has not been found on Mt Ararat or anywhere else. It's location is unknown. As the wood of Noah's Ark was sealed 'within and without by pitch' [or tar] [that is, on both sides of the wood] it means the wood would have been preserved so it would not rot.

That was Noah's Ark, but the other Ark in the Bible is the Ark of the Covenant, and it is unclear which one the question is about. It's location is also unknown, but it was most likely spirited away from Jerusalem by God-fearing priests during the reign of King Manasseh to prevent its destruction, then moved to Elephant Island, and is possibly currently in Ethiopia. However, again no-one knows.

Both Arks were buried somewhere to prevent them being worshipped or broken up into pieces for relics. Their present locations are unknown, but they will be rediscovered and made known if and when God so desires.

Did the flood of Noah cause the dinosaurs to disappear?

No dinosaur fossil has been found that is less than 64 million years old. If the flood occurred only a few thousand years ago, as many believe, then there were no dinosaurs on earth.

But there was no Flood - it was first mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh, when Umapishtim revealed that the gods had been planning to destroy the earth with a flood. One god had taken pity and advised Umapishtim to abandon his possessions, build a seven-tiered ship, and take with him the seed of all creatures. Umapishtim did so, and after seven days, the ark landed on a mountain and he sent forth a dove. Humanity was saved.

How many pig did Noah take onto the ark?

2 This is a common misconception from the song that we all have to sing a youngsters the actual number could either be 7 which is the generally accepted answer or 14 depending on how you interpret certain versions of the bible.

What does the slang term Noahs Ark mean?

Although the story of the biblical Flood is simply one of several in the ancient Near East and quite close to the flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Bible places the story in its own context and gives it its own unique symbolism.

The story of Adam and Eve was the story of the first beginning. In the pre-Flood era, there was no universal law, and the inevitable result was chaos and debauchery. In this antediluvian period, man was vegetarian.

The story of Noah' Ark provided the chance of a second beginning. God tried a new approach and gave Noah instructions regarding laws for the good of society. God also told Noah that he could eat every living thing for meat, but that every living thing would live in fear of man.

ANSWER

Just as the Ark of Noah represented salvation because if you didn't get on that ark you were dead, so with the Ark of God: if you accept God's Salvation freely offered to all people you will live, but if you don't board that ark and accept Salvation you will die.

What do fundamentalists believe in?

Christian fundamentalists believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God and everything within its pages is literal truth. Therefore most fundamentalists believe that Adam was the first human created directly from the ground around 6000 years ago, and Eve was literally created from the rib or the side of Adam. They also believe that around 4500 years ago there was a global flood that destroyed all of life that lives on dry land except for just eight humans including Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives, plus an ark full of animals, birds and insects (in most cases two of every kind). However, there are among fundamentalists those who interpret these accounts differently more inline with an older creation and a relatively localized flood.
