What kind of doctor do you see for pain in the appendix?

Usually, a doctor who specializes in internal medicinewill consult on this one. And an abdominal surgeon might get the call to do the cutting if surgical intervention is warranted. (An emergency surgeon will have done a number of these operations when "right now" is the order of the attending physician.) Those are generalities, however. What actually happens depends on how bad the symptoms are when the patient presents, and which M.D.'s are about the facility at that time.

How do you get knots out of lower back by yourself?

The best option would be a physiotherapist. They will be able to massage the knots out - but even an inexpert massage will help. To massage it out, locate the knot on your back. It will be a small ball about the size of your thumb. Circle the knot firmly - it should be slightly painful to the person. Work each knot for a minute, then move on. Do each knot over twice. Swimming is also good exercise for the condition as it "works" these muscles. Also try heat pads to lessen tightness in the muscles. And a cream like Voltaren will reduce swelling. It should take about a week to make a noticible difference if the knots are bad and about 4 weeks to completely disappear. To stop the knots reoccurring or getting worse, examine your lifestyle for the cause of the knots. Is it the position you sleep in? Is it stress? Is it the way you sit at work?

How do you get rid of a toothache?

Answer

Please see your dentist for a permanent solution; a temporary way to ease the pain is with simple pain medicine, or a numbing solution such as Orajel or Anbesol. Also, avoid very hot and cold foods/liquid, which can irritate the tooth.

I am a "Road Warrior" and at times when I cannot get to a dentist fast so I try everything. I have gone through the Tylenol, Asprin, Advil and found the BEST is Aleve (Naproxen Sodium) for those frugal folks.

I take three Aleve and about 10 to 15 minutes later the pain is tolerable and about 10 to 15 more minutes the pain is gone for the most part and I can continue on without trying anything and everything to make it go away. Funny enough, the Aleve helps me faster than Vicodin does...

Can toothache cause bad headaches?

Yes, a tooth infection can cause a headache. Also, be aware that certain sinus conditions can mask as tooth problems. For example, although not common today, it still happens that growths in certain sinus cavities cause pain, drippings, other symptoms that lead doctors and dentists to treat as tooth/gum problems, and too often by the time the real condition is unearthed it is too late to save the patient.

What causes sharp pains on top of head?

Ice pick headache is a kind of neuritis. A nerve in that area has become inflamed and gives rise to these lightning bolts of pain which come without warning, are very acute and make you jump. In between jolts, that area of the scalp may be hypersensitive to even the lightest touch. Most common cause of all this is actually overlooked by most doctors: riding around in a car with your window open (especially with damp hair), or sleeping in a draft. Of course, there are many other possible causes, from being generally run down, stressed, related to eye problems, and so on. These attacks usually occur spasmodically for a few days and then go away of their own accord. It is very unpleasant and scary but is harmless for the mostpart. Treatment is difficult since the symptom lasts only a second or two and the only effective preventative drugs tend to cause bad digestion problems. Wear something warm on your head and ride it out. Don't stress about it. Avoid drafts, especially try to keep hair dry and wear a cap, scarf, or whatever if you can.

What would cause shoulder pain?

It really depends on what you do. If you were in an accident, you could have what I had, which is a torn labrum. The labrum is a cartilaginous cup that helps hold your joint in place and allows for extended movement. When this is torn, it can be very painful to move your arm in many ways, and it may be uncomfortable to have your arm dangling down at your side, which is where a sling comes in handy. Talk to your doctor about the next step in deciding what is wrong. You could have done a dozen other things, but my expertise is in this one possibility. Try to get a referral to an orthopedic surgeon if your physician does not have the answer. Physical therapy is another great option. Clogging of arteries possibly but I would take some Mucinex if you are coughing and if it still does not stop then go to a doctor.

What is the unit of pain?

Currently, physicians use self-reporting on a 10-point scale, where 1 is the least pain and 10 is the worst pain. The rating is subjective, meaning patients rate their own pain symptoms. However, physicians and medical / nursing staff can also use objective criteria of what they observe about a patient and the patient's behaviors.

How can you treat back pain and leg pain?

Having had 3 major spinal fusions over the past 12 years, and having dealt with spinal problems for over 20, I can tell you that the rule of thumb is that if you can walk, reduce the disk inflammation and pain, anything you can do that keeps you from surgery, try it. Spinal surgery should be the absolute last option when all other things have been tried, or you're looking at a wheelchair or loss of mobility if you don't.

As far as treatment, it depends completely on your specific injury, the affected area of the spine ((if you have pain in the leg it's likely lumbar related), and the amount of physical damage. Other factors include scar tissue buildup, disks affected (if you're experiencing daily nerve pain in you leg (middle of the back, down to the small of the back, across the waist and hip, the side of the leg and thigh and into the inside of the knee) then you're already experiencing a disk problem that needs to be corrected anyway.

MD Options

For your particular situation, having already had an injury you need to see a Neurosurgeon. While surgery may not be necessary (remember what I said about when to have it) Neurosurgeons are the best qualified to deal with the diagnosis and long term treatment plan as they deal with it daily. Your other option is a Pain Specialist, but they're only going to send you to a Neurosurgeon anyway as they can't treat what they don't fully know about, and only pictures and analysis will determine what you need.

You can also consider a Chiropractor, but they'll know you've had an injury, and will be unwilling to manipulate you without pictures.

There are 2 sites you can use for research that I've used in the past and I recommend to others - links are below.

You should also start tracking your pain with a Pain Diary. You can get those in the Publications section of the APF site or there are some other good ones on the Partners Against Pain site. It will help you down the road if you eventually require stronger meds. Normally only those in formal pain programs are required to use them, but doing it without having to shows you're committed to the fundamental ideals of the pain management process/system. It also gives a doctor documented evidence you're not just BS'ing him to get painkillers. You don't want to go there - I've endured the best and worst of the system, and trust me when I say it's not fun.

If you're not already using an anti-inflammatory drug you should be to get the disk inflammation down.

Why do you have pain with your foley catheter?

AnswerMost people experience pain or discomfort with a foley. It can be due to it being too large for your urethra, even being too small can cause discomfort as they "Rattle".Any tension on the cath can cause discomfort. If a cath is proving to troublesome you could have it changed for a different size or even a different make/style of cath.I find silicone caths more comfortable and have recently found the hydrophillic coated foley cath even more comfortable. If you use them for a long time it pays to find which make/model/size fits and works best,if its for short term and its not causing severe pain then putting up with the discomfort for the couple of days it in is normal. Also if your new to caths it can take a while for you and your body to get used to it,first few times are always painful, after a while you get used to it and hardly ever notice it.

What is the cause of pain on the right side of the neck?

Sounds like a neck strain and/or misalignment in the neck. Misalignments put pressure on nerves, and that causes pain. If you strained a muscle perhaps in the lower right neck it typically will affect the nerves on that side, causing neck pain in that area. What causes pain in the heels of your feet?

I had two heel spurs, one in each heel. I suffered terribly for about 5 years, and I worked in a hospital ?.. No- one knew about these at the time I was in pain, till I bought two Orthotics half way ones, and used them every-time I was on my feet. It took about three months for the pain to go. The heel spurs (they are a bone that looks like a claw.) they stay, but the inflammation around the heel spur goes. It's the only thing that helped get rid of mine, without having an operation or injections. Do not wear tight fitting or high heeled shoes . You could also buy full fitting shoes but a half a size bigger to be able to take the Orthotic comfortably. Try and use Trainers with the orthotics in at all times. Therapeutic treatment of heel pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis, Heel spurs, and related discomforts use Heel Orthotics. The orthotic helps lift the Plantar Fasciitis directly beneath the part of the foot where the heel meets the arch of the foot. These help the heel's natural fat pad, and provides natural structural reinforcement to prevent collapse of the mid foot. You can buy them from a chemist, the ones you have fitted, cost an arm and a leg. So make inquiries first about the cost. I hope this information helps everyone who has this very painful affliction. Believe me it REALLY WORKS... It certainly did for me.

How do you make your toothache stop?

If a tooth is hurting, then you should probably not pull it out. You should probably get a oral anasthetic, such as Anbesol or Orajel,( i have anbesol) and numb the tooth. You will not get any pain. After a while, the tooth will get out of its numbness and begin paining again. Keep applying (every 2 hours atleast once) and it will probably not pain for you. DO NOT EAT HARD FOODS! If something gets stuck in that gap, it will hurt a lot!

If it hurts unbearably, consult a dentist. I had to get mine extracted.

Hope I helped!
