Even with the annual "patch" for inflation, it still adds a tax burden and complication for upper-middle-class families with more than the average number of children or who live in a state that taxes income at a high rate--neither of which are exactly progressive tax policies. If you are referring stictly to a Violation of Probation charge (VOP) then you can't charged with a VOP if you're NOT on probation. However, you can "violate" any law at any time and be charged with the offense.

Nothing is free; to get help, you would have to agree to the terms that any of the agencies set up. None of the help out there wants to enable you to continue on the same path. As a homeless person, you would be safer but may feel confined.

Why do officers in the miltary carry sidearms?
Officers are issued side arms to ensure that the soldiers under their command fight. When in a battle, possibly on the losing side, poorly trained soldiers may choose to run rather than fight. The first line of defense against this is boot camp. The only truly effective means of making sure that soldiers fight is to build teamwork. A soldier rarely fight for Country, or purpose or cause. That may be why they enlisted, but when a battle begins, soldiers fight to save their lives, and to save those of their fellow soldiers. If this fails (as often occurs during wars where many enlisted men are draftees) an officer has every right under military law to shoot their own soldiers if they try and leave in the middle of a battle. This is done to prevent a mass exodus. Killing one soldier may ensure that many more stay and fight and can drastically change the course of a battle and even a war.
