Cochran's music involves impressionist elements - fine gradients in palette, plus Eastern-European folk music motifs. What ballroom dances did people do during Shakespeare's time?

They would not have called them "ballroom dances", but there were a number of dances which were performed at court and at other upper class functions. Most of these dances involved pairing off with partners at least part of the time. The Galliard and Gavotte were athletic dances, as was the Volta, which involved the female partner, supported by the male, leaping into the air! The Pavane, on the other hand, was a slow, stately dance.

Dancing was also popular among the lower classes, but their dances, such as Jigs or Brawls, were not danced with partners, but more often in a ring.

How do you do a two person cheer stunt?

Note- Stunting of any kind and any level is very dangerous. Only stunt on a mat or a springboard floor. ALWAYS have supervision from a professional coach.

A two person stunt means that the flyer has one foot in each of her bases hands. Let's start out with a simple one, a prep. To do this you need four people: two bases, a flyer, and a backspot. A frontspot is optional. you should be positioned like this:

X-backspot

XXX-bases

X-frontspot(optional, but reccomended)

Here is a step by step from each person's position.

Bases-Bend your knees a little and cup you hands in front of you( this is called a scrunch or set. On 1 2 Down Up the backspot will jump the flyer into your hands. Lift up. While you lift up, turn your hands out, so your right hand supports the ball of her foot and her toes, and your left hand supports her heel. Hold her like this until it is time to come down. Gently lower her back to scrunch and let her step out. Do NOT cradle out unless you know how.

Backspot- You are the person who has to count. Put your hands on your flyer's waist. Count this: 1 2 Down Up. On down up the flyer should dip her legs and jump into the bases hands, with some help from you. When they start to lift, push her butt and thighs up, and help to stable her. Once she is in the air if she is pretty stable, you can hold her ankles, or if she needs some help, hold her knees or thighs. If she falls backwards, it is your job to catch her.

Flyer- Put your hands on your bases shoulders. On 1 2 Down Up, jump into your bases hands and push off their shoulders as the start to lift. Stay tight, don't drop your butt. Lock your legs. If you fell like your going to fall, say so.

Frontspot- Grab the ankles as they are going up. Then swithc to the kneew, or the bases wrists, depending on stability. If the flyer falls forward, it is your job to catch her.

Always be safe when stunting, never let the flyer hit the ground. ALWAYS, ALWAYS use mats.
