Can eating too many raw carrots in pregnancy be harmful?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Vitamin A in large doses as a supplement has been shown to have a potentially negative effect on fetal development. Carrots and vegetables, on the other hand, do not contain vitamin A itself but carotene. Carotene is provitamin A and is converted to vitamin A in your body only if your body needs it.

You cannot get too much Vitamine A by eating Carotene because the body regulates conversion from carotene to Vitamin A. Although carotene is converted to vitamin A in the body, excessive ingestion of carotene causes carotenemia, not vitamin A toxicity.

Carotenemia is usually asymptomatic but may lead to carotenodermia, in which the skin becomes yellow. When taken as a supplement, β-carotene has been associated with increased cancer risk; risk does not appear to increase when carotenoids are consumed in fruits and vegetables.

Eating carrots and vegetables cannot do any harm to your baby.

What does chalk rock look like?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It taste similar to the old chalk that teachers use on a chalk board at school. I know because I use to eat it as a child in school. I would actually take it from the school board and secretly eat it. Whenever I would smell the dust from the chalkboard at school it would immediately start an overwhelming crave to eat the chalk. For some reason it satisfied a deep crave that I was experiencing during parts of my childhood. I also liked the real white chalk in the earth, It is soooooo good and how I know is because my mother let me taste it as a child. She would literally go or have friends go out into chalk hills to find the earth's chalk mainly when she was pregnant. It's quite amazing because I am now 41 years old and still have those same cravings.

Can you die from eating baby powder?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Inhale enough of it often enough Yes.

Any amount inhaled is harmful:

Tricalcium Phosphate when inhaled is harmful. Here is the proof. This is a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) which states:

"The substance is toxic to lungs, mucous membrane."

Frequent exposure may cause particulates to lodge in the lungs. One case showed crystallosis in the lymph glands of a woman who used dental powder containing Tricalcium Phosphate. Beta TCP has been banned, in some forms, for use as a bone filler.

Use only pure cornstarch as baby powder, if you use anything. Rotate the bottle with your wrist intsead of shaking the bottle. The powder will tumble through the holes gently. Never shake the powder. ANY particulate can be unhealthy when inhaled.
