Where is the fuse for the fuel pump in a 1993 Plymouth Acclaim?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You might want to check the relay, instead of the fuse. I had the same question as I looked at a neighbours '94 Acclaim. I found the relay (by accident). Looked like it was replaced once already. The fuel pump wouldn't stop, so thought to pull the fuse. Pretty sure it's a faulty relay. (I lost 3 starter motors on a 98 Jeep because of the relay - wouldn't shut off - same part number used for the rad fan, and the rad fan exhibited the same sort of problem. After replacing both relays with non-Chrysler parts, I have had no problems with either Jeep starter or rad fan.) After pulling the relay on the Acclaim, the pump stopped. Plug the relay back in, pump does not start until the engine is started. Shut off engine, same problem. My neighbour will replace the relay. Relay is found among other relays under the hood, on the driver's side near the back of the engine compartment. The relays are small black plastic boxes with wires going up into the bottom. Fuel pump relay appeared to be the left one (passenger side) of two mounted together on the surface of ?? (big round piece of metal).

How do you reset the clock on a 1993 Plymouth Acclaim?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the radio is factory installed you should find two small holes on the right hand side of the radio with a H and a M under them. Turn the radio on and punch with a ball point pen in the H for the hour and M for the minutes. Hope this help.

If you do not find the H and M listed above you will need to use the instructions in the next paragraph.

The radio display must be showing the time, if not, press the SEL button. 1. Press the SET button and "P" will be displayed. 2. Press the SEL button and the hour will be displayed. 3. Rotate the tuning knob to change the hour setting. If you have a tuning button, push the button up or down to change the setting. 4. Press the SEL button again to display minutes. 5. Rotate tuning knob or press tuning button to change the minute setting. 6. Press the SEL button one more time to complete procedure.

How do you remove fuel pump from a 1993 acclaim?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Drain the fuel tank if possible.

Support fuel tank with something such as a trans jack or a regular jack with wood on it so it wont hurt the tank.

Remove straps.

Lower tank just enough so you can remove all connections such as wire and hoses.

Remove tank from under the vehicle.

It is held in with a lock nut, take a screw driver and a hammer and gently tap on it till it starts to move.

Move fuel pump from tank.

Install new pump and put tank back, make all connections and your done.

How much if any do you need to back of the rear wheel bearing nut on a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim drum brake?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Tighten it down tight (around 50-100 ft lbs) to seat it, then back it off just enough (quarter turn or alittlte less) so the tire spins free but you can't wobble it & feel bearing play. You may need to retighten & back off again after 50 miles if you pack it with to much grease.

Why does a 92 Plymouth acclaim over heat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Be more informative on "over heats". Is it being driven along time before it over heats? Is the guage showing hot but not boiling out the radiator, is there steam coming from under the hood, is there a sign of leaking under the passenger side dash or under the firewall on the ground, have you had the thermostate replaced, is the water pump leaking?

If the engine is making singing or chirping noises could it be the water pump or belt on a Plymouth Acclaim?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yep, it could be the water pump or maybe the alternator. If a bearing is starting to go bad on that alternartor, it will make noise. Usually if a water pump is going bad you'll notice moisture coming out of the weep hole; but only if the seal goes bad; the bearing can chirp or squeal; take the belt off the pump; does the noise stop? turn the pump by hand does it feel loose and gritty as you turn it? if it's ok it should feel stout with no gritty feeling.

Your 1994 acclaim's gauges go haywire when you turn on your headlights?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

We have had a similar thing happen twice with our 1991 Plymouth Acclaim (about 140,000 miles). Both times replacing the headlight switch solved the problem. We just replaced the switch for the second time today. It cost about $20 at NAPA. It requires removing the dash panels which you can do by carefully pulling on them. We did the panel under the switch first, the one over the heater and radio second and the big one that is around the instrument panel and over the headlight switch last. You have to be very careful so you don't break anything. You might want to consult a manual to see if there are any tricks to removing the panels. Once the panel over the switch has been removed you should be able to replace the switch without too much trouble.

What do you do when your Plymouth Acclaim refuses to start after the gear shift was shoved into park and broke?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Check to make sure shift cable is adjusted properly. Also, check neutral start and back-up light switch located at the lower front edge of the transaxle. The center terminal of the switch grounds the starter solenoid circuit when the transaxle is in Park or Neutral allowing starter to engage.
