I do not like Good King Wenceslas and think the beggar actually either knocked off his benefactor or attemped it- History does record the fact Wenceslas was assasinated! The song takes place on the Feast of Stephen- the first Martyr which drops suggestions- all of the references are in the Past tense except the conversation between Wenceslaus and one of his aides. Sadly crimes do occur on Christmas including the horrifying Jon-Benet Ramsey homicide. To kill a CHILD on the day the C hrist Child comes to redeem, oh boy. Devils there be!
