There should be many homeless people especially in the cities such as: Addis Ababa, Diredawa or Harar, etc. No wonder, even in most developed countries like America, or Europe, there are many homeless people. The issue is not to raise question, the main issue is how, and when to solve this ongoing problem of the world. I am sure, no one would like to choose this life style, it is part of the society's obstacles of this modern time. Ethiopia is being labeled as one of the poorest country in the world. We hear this for many years, but we don't hear any solution which would help that beautiful country to pull out of poverty. Now, I am in my senior years, when I was a student our teachers used to tell us, it is because of backwardness of farming style; since Ethiopia is dependent on farming. This is now 21st century, whereas the advancement of agriculture and technology is immense, still Ethiopia is lingering the same place. Too much talking very little result, instead people should make effort to cooperate; putting aside pike ring on politics, division on race, religion or on class and should work hard and make a great determination for a tangible result for ones and all to cure that country from poverty. Yes.Africa is one continent that has a high rate/level of people or citizens living in poverty.This is mainly due to the fact that countries that are situated in Africa are considered to be developing countries therefore the citizens of these countries do not have adequate access to basic service such as Education,Healthcare etc.The high level of illiteracy also plays a vital part in the occurence of poverty as people don't have sufficient knowledge and skills that would assist the poor to cater for their most basic needs

Poverty can be considered the enemy because it makes people suffer, cause pain, and can even kill people. LBJ "declared unconditional war on poverty" by providing aid for the poor, jobs for youth, a domestic Peace Crops, etc.

Basically because you need money in order to make money. People living in poverty usually only have enough money for their day to day subsistence (and often not even enough for that), which means that it is impossible for them to save any of their income and therefore they stay in poverty.

It depends on who you are and where you live. To live in poverty means that you can not or chose not to earn the means where by you can maintain your health and well being. And the health and well being of those for which you assume responsibility. the Idea of what is poverty for example is far different when seen from the point of view of a welfare recipient in the developed world or a person that just lost everything in Haiti.

I think there is direct relation between poverty and health. Poor people can't manage a healthy and nutritious diet everyday. They go for more quantity in least money. But it does affect their health. Problems like malnutrition is the example.

Because farmers as a rule only get paid when the crops are sold the depend upon credit at stores for seed and essentials. Sometimes the crop doesn't bring in enough money to pay the previous years debt so they tend to stay in debt. However if all goes well they can pay their bills and but money aside to buy the farm if that is an option or maybe buy land elsewhere and start over on their own. Sharecroppers and farmers both have hard lives that depend on the weather a great deal. So nothing is a sure thing. Many take out loans to cover costs until the crops are in and they are able to pay it back.

Poverty must be ended through a collective effort. In 2000, world leaders came together at United Nations headquarters in New York to adopt the UN Millenium Development Goals. This consisted of 8 goals set to be achieved by 2015 that included things like ending poverty and hunger and combatting HIV/AIDS. Ending poverty has been set as a priority and goal for the international community, and now it is just up to every nation to keep their commitment.

In the United States this means all Senators and House members backing important poverty-reduction legislation, like the Water for the World Act. If passed, these bills will end up funding important projects on the ground of developing countries that will emphasize sustainable development for communities. So the next step is to make sure these bills are getting passed. That is where every American has to be involved. Congressional officials are elected into office by their constituents and that is who they are there to serve. If enough constituents express the need for congressional officials to support poverty-reduction legislation, chances are, they will. Urge your congressional officials to cosponsor important poverty-reduction legislation.

Bills will get passed, people will get money to do work on the ground to create development and sustainability in communities. The international community is on board to end global poverty, now it is up to us to urge our congressional leaders to make this possible.
