Nobody has the right to suicide according to the Supreme Court. And in prisons, the guards make major efforts to avoid such activity.
The State of Oregon allows physician assisted suicide but the federal government bars the practice. It is similar to states that legalize marijuana, despite a federal ban.
The young man may be charged with "Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder".
The sentence varies from state to state, but twenty years is a reasonable number to assume.
Depending on the circumstances, the charges may be lessened, but the young man should be prepared for the worst.

Today Hispanics are in the prison population in about 1.5 times their proportion in the general population, and blacks are in prison in about 3 times their proportion. There is no general consensus why this is true. Wikipedia has a good article on this.

There are so many variables in the sentencing rulings that it would be hard to determine the actual length of a sentence. Life can be given as a term(25 years) minimum with or without parole,,,or 25 years to Life,,,meaning that the convicted would have to spend a minimum of 25 years before they MAY become eligible for parole.
