Protestantism

Generally associated with the protests against the Catholic Church and its methods, Protestants follow Jesus Christ. One of the early scholars to lead the break from the established church was Martin Luther. If you have questions about anything to do with Protestantism, this is place to ask them.

1,475 Questions

Do you have to be part of the episcopal church to have your child christened?

Although some protestant denominations (Baptists, for example) have children wait to make their own decisions about being baptized, there are many denominations that don't. You will need to speak to the priest about why you wish your child to be christened in the Episcopalian church whether or not you are a member. You may need to participate in religion classes, too. Talk to your local priest to see what the requirements are in your situation. You may baptise your child as a baby because in the Episcopal Church, your child will make their own decision when getting confirmed. Confirmation is a renewal of your Baptismal vows, but the child will make their own choice to follow Christianity. It is done by a Bishop, not a priest like Baptism. They take a class during the school year in Sunday school. Then they take a brief test to ensure they are ready to follow Christianity. (adults can also be Confirmed.) You must, however, be Baptized.

Does the rapture happen before Satan is thrown into the abyss?

One thing is for sure, the 'chosen ones' will NOT be raptured BEFORE the Great Tribulation. They will not avoid those terrible days; as if to 'slide past' them unscathed.

In Matthew 24:21, 22 Jesus is discussing the 'great tribulation'; and especially verse 22 states that the days of the tribulation will be 'shortened' in behalf of the chosen ones. Therefore they will not have been raptured before the tribulation starts, but will simply have those days 'shortened' in their behalf.

The Bible next indicates that Satan will be abyssed AFTER the Tribulation is over, not before, or during.

Therefore by way of deduction; that would be a: -- Probably.

(But I will stand by, to be corrected; if I'm missing something. -- I never use the word 'rapture' since I am not trying to get to heaven; my hope is to 'inherit' the earth, not heaven.)

Another Answer:

The term 'rapture' is not in the Scripture but was a concept of man in the early-mid 19th Century of a 'secret' coming of Christ to take His true disciples to Heaven, then the tribulation culminating in another Coming of Christ to rule the world. However, the Bible is quite clear that Jesus will only come one time (at the sound of the 7th trumpet) and it will be quite loud and spectacular - the whole world will take note of it and many will shutter and ask the mountains to fall upon them because of fear.

The time of Satan's defeat by Jesus and Michael (presumed) chaining him for 1,000 years and throwing him into the abyss is at the very end of the 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets, and 7 Vials (the last 2 sets also contain the 3 Woes when Satan and company are cast out of Heaven for the final time and come to the Earth). It occurs in Revelation 20:1-3 which the Book of Revelation is in chronological order - with a few 'sidebars' or 'flashbacks' to help readers recall some important events.

Concerning the true Church members, this is spoken to in Revelation 12:14 as a woman which is symbolic of His Church ( a small flock, aka the elect). But note, Revelation 12:17 speaks to others not taken to the place of safety for these 3 1/2 years. Are these the Laodicean Era of the Church who have grown 'cold' and are left behind of the Philadelphian Era members who remained strong to the end? Some think so. Last point to consider is in Revelation 13 and 17 where it is speaking of a harlot - also a woman but of disrepute considered to symbolically be the 'great false church' of 'christians believers.' These too, remain/die through all the events of the 3.5 years and the abyss for Satan - just before the start of the Millennial Rule of Christ.

Post Note: After the 1000 years, Satan is released and many from the Millennial period - a judgement process and not sentencing where at the very end, the majority of mankind is called to resurrection and given the opportunity to chose life of death via repentance and Christ. Most all will but many will weaken and follow the released Satan and these with the resurrection of the condemned - incorrigible who refuse repentance and Christ, will be cast into the Lake of Fire to the extinction. Satan and the rest of his demons as well for eternal punishment as spiritual beings cannot die as physical beings can and will. All who believe are changed into spiritual sons and daughters as the Lake of Fire consumed the physical Earth and Universe - purging them anew. God and His Throne descend to the New Earth in the New Jerusalem. Heaven is now on Earth - the inheritance of mankind. Next chapter begins here.

Someone who want to preserve the country for white American-born Protestants?

Your query not clear-someone should want to preserve the country period. To favor any 1 group would be racist & against the very principles upon which our nation was founded.

Why do Protestants call themselves christans and not Protestants?

The word 'Christian' means 'follower of Christ', while 'Protestant' refers to any denomination which separated itself from the Roman Catholic Church. While some members of Protestant denominations may well refer to themselves as Protestants, by and large the association with Jesus Christ is considered more important than the disassociation with the Roman Catholic Church - as such, 'Christian' is the primary term used.

What is the Relationship between Catholics and protestants?

Catholics are Christians who are members of the Church that Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ founded on St. Peter (Matthew 16:17-19), and guaranteed until the end of the world. He sent the Holy Spirit to be with it and guide it for all time. Protestants are descendants of those who broke away from Christ's Church in the sixteenth century to make up their own religion, they are thus only material heretics, those first generation of priests who left to found their own religions are formal heretics.

Who knows the true origin of mankind?

God has which he does continues to do. How can you describe the true belief of Man? God created us in his own image and likeness yet we are not all spiritually connected. I am a example of the few that feel an intimate relationship yet I am not lead to help all those who exist in this world. I would like to explore more about who we are as human beings or something else deeper. This all started with the beginning of man & ?. The entire version. I am writing a book that inspires man to evolve into the forward. Hope it makes a great movie one day.

Are protestantism priest able to marry?

Catholic priests will refuse to marry anyone not belonging to their faith. A Protestant pastor will do the job.

What are the protestant holidays?

The two major holidays that a Protestant should celebrate are:

The 12 of July (Orangemans Day) and the 5th of November (Guy Fawkes Day).

Why do we pray when it is God's will to be done?

Praying is the "humble and Faithful act" of a "believer" that is, for one thing, an acknowledgement of God's sovereignty over him... and all that exists. It's an admission to Him that we are mortal, dying... and not the all-powerful, independent "captains of our own destiny"... but that we need to "align and conform our will to His."

Prayer is personal communication with our Creator whereby we might both praise Him for his blessings on us... and/or cry out to Him to save us from life's trials. It's "talking to our Father in heaven"... getting to know Him. It's "Spiritual Bonding."

The very act of praying is CONTRARY to "human nature"... which is selfish, rebellious and hostile to the will of God.

"...the carnal mind [the natural heart and mind of man] is ENMITY [hostile] against God..." (Rom.8:7).

Indeed, God's will shall be done... but any man whom God finds "outside of His will" when He begins enforcing it on earth [see Matt.6:10] -- that is, any who refuse to humble themselves and bow to His will -- will be regarded by Him as His ENEMY: an undesirable and untenable position in which such rebellious men shall perish.

"...those Mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before Me. (Luke 19:27)

God is presently, for this allotted period of time that He's given to mankind, "inviting" men to acknowledge and worship Him, the Creator of all that is. He's calling those [elect, saints, servants, friends] whom He has predestined to humbly bow to His will... that they might grow and develop, spiritually, in Godly character, to attain to leadership offices and positions in His Kingdom, befitting their talents and training, when it finally comes to earth.

"...but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit [humble], and trembleth at My Word." (Isa.66:2)

We pray so that we might get to know the One who made the universe... because He is the One who is able to grant men immortality... to live forever with Him in His Family as His Children in the limitless universe He created.

Prayer is "intimacy between the Father and His Child." It's the Child's getting to know what He expects of His Children... learning His will... to know and understand the rules of His household, in order to live in His House with Him for Eternity with the rest of His Family [our future brothers and sisters; all of mankind].

God's will is for all of His Children to learn Mercy and Grace; to Love, Respect and Care about the well-being of others -- which is the opposite of man's selfish will, and the opposite of the will of this merciless, hate-filled, uncaring world that holds little or no regard for precious life.

God's Family is ONE [just as a husband and wife and their children are one; or should be]. God's Children pray so that they might get to "know their Father's will"... that they might willingly, lovingly and obediently conform to it -- and make His will THEIR WILL.

We pray for God's Glorious Kingdom [His Government] and His will to come to this earth [again, Matt.6:10]... so that we may delight in the global PEACE that would reign over all the earth; the way that Peace and God's Will already reigns in heaven.

"...the Government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His Government and Peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with Judgment and with Justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts WILL PERFORM THIS." (Isa.9:6-7)

God's will shall indeed be done [with or without us]. But, Faithful, Humble men pray in order to learn to humbly conform to His will -- that they might live to see and enter into that Eternal Kingdom that's coming.

Was John Wesley a prophet or a preacher?

A preacher, who used a "method" to study the Bible. He took his sermons to the people, preaching on the streets and even in mines to bring the word of God to everyone. He founded the Methodist Church. Protestants do not consider great preachers to be prophets, even if they founded a denomination.

What do Jewish catholic and protestant bibles have in common?

The books of the Old Testament. Catholic Bibles include passages, and even whole books, added by later Greek authors, which were purged from Jewish Bibles. Protestants followed the Jewish example, and purged the same material.

Why did the Catholics and Protestants fight in the 1500's?

The problem lied in not having enough love for each other. Of course we must defend the truth, but not in separation of love.

__

Politics and religion make people do strange things. Religious hatred and irrational thinking caused people to fight one another. Each was convinced they were the "true" believers and that gave them the right to try and kill/oppress the other side.

Roman Catholic AnswerIf you really look at the protestant revolt, you find that there were not actually a lot of people that wanted to leave the Catholic Church. There were a few people, like Martin Luther, that had "issues" with the Church. They could have been resolved, but political leaders - princes and kings got involved, and decided that they would like nothing better than to be free from Rome, to not have to give allegiance to Rome, nor send money to Rome. So some German princes took up Martin Luther's battle cry to start a Church in Germany that did not owe allegiance to a "foreign prince". In England, it was the King, himself, who wanted to keep the Catholic Church, but divorced from the Pope. His advisers, and his son's advisers, and finally, his daughter, Elizabeth I, all were more protestant leaning then Henry himself, and they completed the purging of Catholicism from their new Church. In all these issues, you have the rulers who are fighting other rulers over religion, this tends to result in armed conflicts. On an individual level, all people are born with original sin, and without the grace of God, they tend to be taken over by the other guy, the evil one, and this tends to lead to conflicts, and fights.

What is the difference between the Greek cross and the church of England cross?

A Greek cross is simply an equal-sided cross, where all of the bars are the same length (+) but there is no such thing as a 'church of England cross'. Protestants, which includes Anglicans, generally use the Latin cross (which has a longer bottom bar) and the Celtic cross (which has a circle in the middle). If anything, the Celtic cross is the most commonly used cross in the church of England, Ireland and Scotland.

However, all of these crosses are considered to be the same in Christianity and have no difference at all, apart from reflecting a person's individual style or cultural expression. All crosses are regarded as being the sign of Jesus Christ and therefore holy.

Austreneland says: Actually, the church of England uses a compass type emblem, or st. George's cross. The difference between Greek and St. George's would be that greek is any color and equal armed, while st. george's is always red on white and the horizontal bar is longer than the vertical one (rather like this -+-) as might be depicted naturally on an ordinary flag

Do Pentecostals believe in the trinity?

Answers from our community:

We know that everything is one. Jesus and god are the same and the Holy Spirit is the same as well.

Answer

Definetely we believe in the trinity; the Father God , the Son God Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost God. 1 John 5:7-12

Answer:

It may surprise people to know that the word trinity does not appear in The Bible. Jesus repeatedly is shown to be, not equal to his Father, bit a lesser one one subject to Jehovah God. John14:28 "You heard that I said to you, I am going away and I am coming back to you. If you love me you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I am." John 17:3 "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians "But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.

What is a Lutheran?

Of or pertaining to Martin Luther, leader of the Protestant Reformation, a German theologian and author. An adherent to Luther's doctrines.

The Protestant movement was breaking away from the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church. There is a denomination of the Christian Church named after Luther, the Lutherans.

In a book called "Denominations - how we got them" by Stanley I. Stuber (copyright 1959), I found this summary of Lutheran beliefs: The doctrine of the Reformed Church is represented in the Apostles' - the Nicene, and the Athanasian creeds. It is distinct from a Calvinistic body. Stress is placed upon liturgy.

Children are baptized "as heirs of the kingdom of God and of his covenant"; adults are baptized on profession of faith in Christ unto the remission of sins.

The church membership consists of all baptized persons. These are under the care of the Church, and are subject to its government and discipline. The prospective members do not sign any specific creed, but they are required to make a confession of faith before the minister and elders.

The Lord's Supper is practiced, with emphasis placed upon the spiritual presence of Christ at the Supper. Here is one of the chief differences between the Lutheran and the Reformed Churches.

Another Answer:

A follower of Martin Luther, a German scholar and preacher from the late 15th and early 16th century who believed that the Catholic church was not advocating and spreading the word of Jesus Christ any-more and so he and his followers the Lutherans protested. This is where the term protestant comes from, a Christian that is not part of the original Orthodox, Catholic etc churches.

Protestants and Lutherans are examples of the Christian?

Yes. Actually, Lutherans are a specific church (or denomination), while "protestants" is an umbrella term that includes many different denominations.

What was the role of the Holy Spirit in the Incarnation and in Redemption?

Answer:

The holy spirit tends to enter the person sometime after they are saved, most commonly at baptism. It can be considered the empowering spirit of god inside a person, although it also bears the name "comforter".

Answer:

Salvation is a "slave-market business deal."

Mankind is the slave of Satan the Devil, the "god of this world." Our obedience to him is the breaking of the Ten Commandments, which the Bible calls: "SIN" (I John 3-4). In our performance of "sin," the works of our master, the wages we earn for it is DEATH.

To those whom the True God is revealing Himself, Jesus Christ PURCHASES US FROM OUR MASTER, Satan, in exchange for the debt we owe (our lives)... and our faith in Jesus' blood to have the power to free us from Satan's rule over us initiates the deal. Jesus died in our stead, our debt is paid... and we are "translated," transferred... carried over to our New Master's employment.

When we enter into the service of our New Employer, our Master, Jesus Christ... we agree to comply with the conditions of our "new employment" - OBEDIENCE TO OUR NEW MASTER. That is... we agree to "keep the Commandments" that the old master hates and refuses to keep.

The pre-employment screening begins with our "repentance" for having disobeyed the Commandments... and our new desire to begin keeping them. We are required to demonstrate that desire by symbolically being buried with our New Master in a simulated death, a watery burial and resurrection from death... resurrected in newness of life with a clean slate - no sins recorded against us - and ready to serve Master Jesus Christ.

"...Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT." (Acts 2:38) (Ghost is an unfortunate superstitious translation of the era found in the KJV)

Enter, the Holy Spirit's role in the process of salvation... and our duties and service to our New Master.

Since, our ultimate salvation won't be until Jesus Christ returns to the earth: "...unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation." (Heb.9:28)... the Holy Spirit is temporarily given to Christ's servants to seal the agreement, until the entire deal is finalized at His coming.

This time-honored business practice is called an "earnest." It's a valued token or pledge that a buyer gives in good faith to the one who is to receive the merchandise (in this case, eternal life) at a later time.

"...He which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; who hath sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts." (II Cor.1:21-22)

Man is not yet eternal... or immortal... but to those He is calling now, God gives a spark of His immortality to dwell in their hearts and minds until Jesus returns and redeems those whom He has purchased:

"...even in Him: in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will: that we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ.

"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory." (Eph.1:10-14)

The role of the Holy Spirit is to "mentor" those whom God is calling. It provides the Truth of God's Word... the Bread of Life, the Nourishment... to the mind and heart of "God's developing Child." It's a Spiritual Umbilical Cord that supplies the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God's revealed Word for Godly character development.

And it's the role of God's developing Child to listen to the Truth the Spirit is revealing... to overcome the humantendency to rebel against the Truth... and to learn to obey his New Master.

Que es un altar?

An altar is a place where offerings are made.

This can be in the form of sacrifices or (in more modern protestant and catholic faiths) money or "tithes."

The altar is most often located at the front of the church or cathedral within plain sight of the congregation.

Sorry for the following terrible translation:

Un lugar donde se hacen sacrificios.

Un lugar para dar los regalos a Dios.

En las iglesias y catedrales modernas, regalos de dinero

se presentan en el 'altar'.

En más viejas religiones y épocas de tiempo, cabras y otros animales

fueron sacrificados en el 'altar' así-
