I have been fishing, preparing, cooking and serving stingray, skate and shark meat for more than 40 years; and I can tell you, definitively, that the majority of seafood restaurants serve cookie-cutter plugs of stingray, skate and shark as "sea scallops"...

Anyone who is well familiar with the texture of stingray, skate and shark can INSTANTLY identify the bogus scallops. True sea scallops and bay scallops DO NOT have striated (fibrous) muscle tissue, as do sharks, stingrays and skates. A bogus scallop will look like a cross-section of striated muscle tissue. A TRUE scallop has a smooth, uniform texture.

There are many chefs out there who will SWEAR that it's illegal to market shark and stingray as "real" scallops, but that is simply not true. It's my conjecture that such chefs are covering their own practice of substituting shark and stingray for other delicacies on their menus.

If there are such laws, then seafood restaurants all over the USA are violating those laws with impunity, no doubt because such laws are not stringently enforced.

The argument that sea scallops and bay scallops are more plentiful and are cheaper than stingray, skate and shark meat is also preposterous. Bay scallop populations in U.S. waters are on the decline for various reasons, and many of their marine habitats have been declared endangered, under federal protection. Being on the endangered list DOES NOT precipitate lower scallop prices.

Small, whitemeat sharks and stingrays, on the other hand, are abundant in U.S. coastal waters in the EXTREME, and very few sharks, skates and stingrays are on the endangered species list. These boneless, whitemeat fish are REGULARLY used as substitutes for a whole range of marine delicacies, and most unobservant consumers can't tell the difference.

Hammerhead Sharks are carnivorous predators. Their diet includes fish, squid, Octopus, Crustaceans and Sting Rays. Sting Rays are one of the hammerheads favorite prey species. Large Hammerhead species esp. the "Great Hammerhead" is known to feed on other hammerhead species as well. Hammerheads are also cannibalistic, they eat their own young ones.

Because it is part of the ray family, it has a nasty barb on its tail that burys into the sea bed. If it attacks it stricks with its barb which would give a sting.

The wing tips of some rays are delicious. The ones I know to be tasty Atlantic species (I've only been offerred those), are benthic (they stay near the bottom) and predators (as opposed to filter feeders). These are taxonomically close to shark, and they taste like it. REmember that they're called "stingray" for a reason, and avoid the tail. Also note that some rays, like California's Torpedo Ray, use a mechanism that may be similar to the Electric Eel, in that they produce a SERIOUS electrical charge, that can easily knock you down. Also, in the tropics in particular, these are "tourist fish". Lots of people visit their basking grounds and, as the animals are no longer aggressive or fearful, and are fed by tourists, the locals (who make money from this phenomenon) and the tourists (whi think this fish is friendly) present a real danger if you decide to fish these up. My advice? Check with the locals first to see if you can eat them. Take only enough for dinner and then stop -- no overfishing. Don't make a show of it.

In the ocean ecosystem, bull sharks are at the top of the food chain web. It is a predator that preys on fish, turtles, dolphins, and other sharks. Because they have few to no natural predators, bull sharks are considered apex predators.

- WATER WATER WATER! Drink fluids (not acidic) to replace those you lost.

- Menudo. A Mexican tripe soup that has traditionally been eaten the morning after.

- B vitamins

- Ask your pharmacist for over the counter preparations that can help.

- "Hair of the Dog" - not recommended (a small drink of alcohol).

- Tomato juice (also not recommended due to the acidity).

- Soda crackers and tea.

Well all fish have gills, fins, are coldblooded, and have a backbone.

Cobra's kill their prey by biting them and injecting them with venom. The venom kills the prey and then the snake eats the prey whole. Some cobra's spit their venom rather than having to bite the prey.

They can't float, just like sharks, rays continuously swim through the ocean until they die or get killed by predators (which is probably unlikely for electric rays).

Not manta rays. other rays maybe, but mantas don't have a sting, so unless u purposely get in the way of one of their ginat leaps outta the water, they cant hurt u either purposely or accidentally!
