In 2004, Rosa was diagnosed with progressive dementia and died the following year on October 24, 2005. On October 29, 2005 her body was flown back to Montgomery and taken to St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church by a horse drawn hearse. That same evening, Rosa's body was transported to Washington, D.C. where a bus that was similar to the one she made her famous stand in transported her to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. There she lay in honor, and was viewed by more than 50,000 people, until the memorial service at St. Paul AME in Washington, D.C. on October 31, 2005.
Before the Civil Rights Movement, when whites were thought to be better than all other races, she along with many others decided it was time for change. In that time, before the bus boycott, if a colored individual would have to give up there seat to a white individual. One day when Parks was riding a white man demanded her seat. Seeing she was much older than the man, she thought that she deserved the seat. After she refused, police were called and Parks was jailed. This later resulted in the legendary bus boycott, which the organization of this is mostly credited to M.L.K.
She wanted a change. She wanted herself and others around her to be treated fairly.

Why did Rosa Parks refuse to give her seat on a bus?
It was a planned action on the part of the NAACP. Rosa had been involved in Claudette Colvin's defense, who was the first girl to not give up her seat in Montgomery 9 months earlier. Claudette was raped and became an unwed mother so the NAACP didn't feel she would be capable of taking forward a legal offense on the segregation laws. Neither was the next woman, Mary Louise Smith. Rosa was an upstanding woman with no skeletons in her closet and she was brave and tired of segregation. She wasn't tired from work but tired of the situation.
BTW, it wasn't the first time she refused to move but the first time she was arrested.
