The most common fault is a dry/damaged/broken drive cable, the symptoms ranging from reading slower than actual speed through uncontrolled needle swing to no operation at all. Slow reading or swing can be cured by oiling the cable. Disconnect from the speedo end and pour a small amount of engine oil between the inner and sheath of the cable. move the inner cable up and down in the outer to distribute the oil. Check the squareness of the protruding inner cable, push it fully home so it engages with the gearbox drive and try to turn it. It should not turn. To replace the cable completely disconnect the drive cable from the centre of the speedo and where it attaches to the gearbox. Follow the routing of the old cable with the new cable, thus avioding kinks, traps or impossible angles that will impede the function of the cable. Connect the cableat both ends then secure it with the body fastenings previously removed.

If the speedo head has failed, the only remedy is to buy a new or second hand one. Unsrcew and release the present instrument pack, twist and remove the broken speedometer and replace with the new one. Then simply screw everything back into place. It is often more cost effective and certainly easier to replace the entire instrument pack.

If refering to the 200 series Rovers such as the 211,214,216 etc then the thermostat is in a housing beneayh the fuel inlet manifold, at the back of the engine at the crankshaft pulley end. access is limited so is sometimes easier reaching from underneath the car. it has rubber O ring seals.

It isn't on the car or in the handbook(unless someone has already obtained it and written it down, you've won a watch) you need to get it from the dealer(see previous post).

no they are different. It will fit the same, however a series 3 land rover has syncromesh on all gears whereas a series 2a only has syncromesh on 3rd and 4th.

The 16 valve 1.4 k series engine produces 103bhp as standard - its one of the most powerful 1.4 litre engines around. The larger 1.8 k series engine was used as standard in the lotus elise and caterhams. A very solid aluminum block engine, just suffers from a sub-standard OEM head gasket.

There are two types of clock. One that displays only the clock and the other that displays radio information. Removal and replacement is the same. Use a wide bladed screwdriver or a two inch filler knife to prise out the surround. Start at the passenger side and the bottom. Use something to protect the dashboard. The filler blade will do this with the screwdriver on top of it. Carefully remove it and then remove the two screws holding the clock in the dashboard. The Bulb is accessible from the back. As they say replacement is the reverse of the removal. Part number for dual display clock is XQH100010 I believe the clock in the Freelander is the same but may have a green display.

Don't know what car this is but had a similar problem with an S40 Volvo 1.8i. Garage said engine was shot (needed replacement), turned out to be a blocked flame trap in the crankcase breather system. Cost nought but time to sort. Had to remove inlet manifold. It's run perfect ever since and cruised thru the MOT emmisions test.

Something has seized. Check all the pulley's the belt runs around are turning freely (remove the belt to do this).

clutch & pressure plate were replaced remote was changed engine turns good but car wont fire, power reaches coil but does not reach plug leads coil was replaced new same issue car wont start, remote seem to be working good! unlock with key engine does not turn use remote engine turns good! can you help please?

Put it in 5th gear, (preferably facing uphill) Give it plenty of revs and try to pull away.

One of either two things will happen;

Firstly the car will not stool straight away or not even stool when the clutch if fully engaged (the clutch is out); result; you need a new clutch.

Secondly, the car will stool straight away which means the clutch plate and flywheel are engaging and gripping well; a good sign BUT it could mean your thrust bearings are worn in which case it's as much work as replacing the clutch so you may as well replace that while the mechanic has your car in pieces as it's a good 100 quid for labour alone!

Before you do any of the following, get someone to push the clutch in and out to check which cable it is, give it a little tug around to make sure it's not caught on anything and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, have a look somewhere on the cable for an adjuster screw/nut and tighten it all the way. If there is no difference, try loosening in all the way, if it still makes no difference, try the first thing I mentioned... Hope this helps! Good luck, Karl!

The horn on Rover 200 Series is twin horn and is tucked away by the side of the passanger side headlight.

srs stands for supplimentary restraint system, which is your airbag system. If the light is on all the time this would indicate a fault in the system and would have to be checked by a garage or somebody with diagnostic equipment to determine what the fault is

To change the thermostat on a 2000 Range Rover, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Drain the coolant from the radiator, then remove the hoses connected to the thermostat housing. Unscrew the housing to access the thermostat, replace it with the new unit, reassemble the housing and hoses, and refill the cooling system with coolant. Finally, reconnect the battery and check for leaks.
