It probably works the same as my 1995 900 did: Unlatch the two clamps holding the top snugly to the windshield frame, then press the rocker switch which IIRC is on the center console, not far from the gearshift.

The back of the top will lift slightly, allowing the cover over the well the top fits into to raise up (hinged at its rear), then the whole top raises up and folds into the well, finally the cover closes back down.

Its sort of a neat operation to watch, and pretty quick. I often raised or lowered the top while at a red traffic light, and always finished the operation by the time the light turned green. The same rocker switch, pushed in the opposite direction causes the procedure to reverse and raises the top, just leaving you to reclose the windshield frame clasps.

Note there are a couple of builtin safety locks...one prevents operation when in motion, others will warn that you didn't unlatch the latches I think, maybe more.

Stories of how expen$ive repairs could be when the motors or relays went awry, coupled with a few seams starting to look frayed, prompted me to sell the car before I had actualy top problems, while I could get decent $$$ for it. I had read of one guy who had to have the top mechanism worked on a couple or three times, and had spent $5000 on top repairs by the time he gave up and dumped the car.

I bought my 900SE with 105k miles on it for $5400. Kept it 3 years and 35k miles, sold it for $5000. Not bad, driving a really neat looking and handling convertible for about $0.36 a day depreciation...not counting every time anything went wrong and it went to a dealer it ran m at least $1000.

1. Buy new alternator and go to where your car is. I also recommend buying two new alternator belts - neither is a spare, Saab put two on it.

2. Unhook the battery. If the new alternator doesn't have a pulley, use the belts to keep the alternator pulley from turning and break the pulley bolt free.

3. Loosen the two bolts holding the alternator in and push it toward the engine until the belts can be removed. Remember how they went on.

4. Unhook the two wires from it.

5. Remove the two bolts, then lift out the alternator. Careful, they're heavy.

6. If there's no pulley on the new alternator, move it from old to new.

7. Set the alternator in place. Put the bolts in but leave them loose.

8. Put the belts on. If you moved the pulley, tighten its bolt good and tight now.

9. Adjust the belt tension, then tighten the alternator bolts.

10. Reconnect the wires.

11. Hook up the battery.

TCS stands for traction control system. The TCS light comes on whenever one of your wheels is turning at a faster rate than the other (as in losing traction on wet pavement). The "system" automatically slows the wheel down that spinning too fast. The light comes on whenever it's actively performing it's intended function.

if your brake fluid is low, you probably need to replace your brake pads. If your pads are good and you fluid is low, you have a leak somewhere. By replacing your pads, the brake fluid level will rise to the proper level. If you add fluid now, then replace your pads, brake fluid will leak out the top of your fluid reservoir and most likely eat the paint off what ever it spills on. Brake fluid and car paint DO NOT MIX.

You can buy a spare key on eBay for the electronic component of the key. Then go to a dealer to get a key made based on your VIN number. Then you can have anyone with a Tech II device "synchronize" the new key along with all other keys to the TWICE module on the car. All keys must be present during the programming any time a new key is added. This method is cheaper than going to a dealer for the entire process. Many independent Saab shops have a Tech II and will program keys for less than a dealer.

It depends on the engine and the country. Read your owners manual for the correct answer for your particular vehicle.

2007 Saab 9-3 tail light bulb replacement: Purchase the correct replacement bulb(s) first, before disassembling the vehicle. Then consult your owner's manual for the replacement procedure. As simple as it sounds, the owner's manual is the best place to start for bulb replacement instructions and illustrations. You may want to consider replacing both left and right at the same time in order to keep brightness and color equal (optional).

Brake pads are usually between $50 and $100 for a set (each axle), depending on quality. and if you really insist on turning your rotors, you are probably going to pay for 4 hours of labor total with pads installed and rotors turned, labor is also between $50 and $100 per hour. There are many variations as far as "brake jobs" go. You might get there and find out you need 4 calipers too... oops! tack on another $400. Do your self a favor and buy new rotors so your brake pedal doesn't pulsate after 10 miles of lead foot driving!

I would check out local auctions on cars to see what they have to offer on pre owned Saabs. I would also check out your local newspaper and Craigslist too.

It is a big hex plug on the center rite side of the case. Can be pretty hard to take out sometimes, so don't be afraid to put some good force on it.

P0300 Diagnostic Code - Random Misfire

Symptoms.
Engine may stumble or miss
Engine may be hard to start

Failing spark plugs or spark plug wires
Bad coil or coil pack
Failing oxygen sensor(s)
Bad fuel injector or more than one
Stuck exhaust valve
Bad catalytic converter

The Fix
Best first action is a tune up, new plugs, wires, inspect all hoses and wire connections then reset the code. If it returns you will need to narrow it down to a system, coils and coil packs should be tested, catalytic converters for function ( do you smell rotten eggs?). A misfire that jumps cylinders could indicate a lean condition, do you have any other codes along with the 300? this will help clue you in to the source, check valve function to make sure they are opening and closing fully.
This is probably pone of the most difficult codes to troubleshoot, so start with the basics and work your way into the more expensive options, in many cases a good old tune up solves the problem, back it up with a fuel system cleaning and see where you stand.

Same as Non- Turbo decribed on this site. Although, I have never needed to remove the A/c Compressor or the Alt to complete the repair. A small mechanics mirror is helpful to some for the gasket removal. Scotch-Brite type scrubbing pads work well to remove gasket material bits once the majority is off.

(1) Open the hood; (2)unscrew the retainer from the back of the headlight; (3)pull the bulb socket out of the headlight assembly; (4)pull out the housing clips and remove the housing from the grill. NOTE:on later models there only 2 clips that are pulled up to release the headlight housing - one on each side. After pulling them up, simply move the headlamp housing forward from the vehicle.
