Depends on the individual, and the patch. The glue is usually used to merely hold the patch in place until it can be sewn. It will not generally make the patch last longer, or stay sewed longer, but it does make the material and the patch easier to work with.

Diamond shape knitting pattern to make small shapes to sew together into a rug?

Perhaps you mean mitred squares? Decreasing in the middle causes a diamond shape (in fact more like ever-decreasing V's) to develop.

# Cast on an odd number of stitches. Knit until you reach the middle three stitches. Slip one stitch, knit two together, pass the slipped stitch over the end of the right hand needle. Knit to the end of the row. # Knit the next row from start to finish with no decreases. # Repeat these two rows until you have one stitch left and then snap the yarn and pull it through the stitch to cast off.

Pfaff sewing machine that your 2year old grandaughter has scribbled over the sewing machine with a permanent marking pen colour blue how will you remove the marking pen off the sewing machine?

Try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. My 3 year old twins and their 2 year old sister once got a hold of oil paint and smeared it all over my bathroom and floor and even wood and the magic eraser got it all off even though it was dry. If you got one you wont regret it.

Depending on how long the permanent marker has been allowed to sit, an alcohol based hand sanitiser can also do the trick.

The stuffing used in pillows was often a fiber known as Kapok, which comes from the pods of a Kapok tree. Sometimes flock was used, which is a grade of either wool or cotton that is too poor to make into thread or yarn, and is used in bulk. You might also hear of linsey woolsey which was originally a mixture of linen flax and wool, and often used for stuffing.

Where can you purchase vegetable dye?

Vegetable dyes can be purchased from various companies easily online, though some are quite pricey. Most of them are located in India, in Bali and Indonesia (not limited to these countries) if in the US there are some great dye suppliers that I've found.

It seems that most ship worldwide, and depending on the end-use can be cost effective if bought in bulk.

Further there are many sites that offer books one can buy, or free instructions on how to extract dyes and how to mix and use.

Links are below in "Related Links"

  • AMA Herbal Laboratories
  • Natural Dyes contains several suppliers around the world. There are colors for mixing, and experimentation, as well as ideas for different techniques of dyeing
  • Some like Aurora Silk have kits for beginners as well as advanced dyers.
  • Maiwa has suppliers of artisan supplies including dyes.
  • On Alibaba there are mostly business-to-business suppliers but membership is free and one can inquire easily. This resource would be best for large scale manufacturing.
  • John Marshall has wonderful natural dye sticks as well as offering various "how to" information.
  • Lanaset dyes (mostly for wool) and such are found at Sheep Hollow. Safe and easy to use...
  • At Earth Guild, things get a bit more technical, but for those that are interested in the mixes, they also have starter kits.
  • Table Rock Llamas is another site with starter kits or color by color buys.
  • Another choice would be to buy the specific type of yarn one needs, which some of the above sources offer, as well as Lalana Wools.

Where and when were cotton fibers first used?

Scientists and historians have found shreds of cloth or written reference to cotton dating back at least seven-thousand years. Evidence of the use of cotton in the form of thread has been found in Pakistan, dating to about 6,000 B.P., although it is not clear whether the thread derived from cultivation or from wild cotton. The oldest discovery was made in a Mexican cave, where scientists unearthed bits and pieces of cotton bolls and cloth. Archaeologists have also found cloth fragments in the Indus Valley of India (Pakistan) dating about 3000 B.C.

What is costlier cotton or polyster?

Cotton is more expensive than polyester, as it is grown, whereas polyester is man-made and easier to get.

Value of Singer Sewing Machine AF599708?

AF599708 is the serial number of your machine. According to the serial number charts on the Singer website, it is a model 15, manufactured in 1940. Vintage sewing machines are valued much like vintage automobiles. Just saying you have a 1940 Singer sewing machine is not enough to establish the value. Several other factors must be considered: - Condition: Is it a rusty hulk, or shiny, showroom shape? - Model: Each manufacturer made several machines for different pocketbooks, just as with autos, the luxury models usually retain their value better than the utility models. The model 15 came in many variants - the 15-30 was the most common and was made for treadle operation. The 15-91 and 15-125 are gear-driven electric models favored for their strength. Some other model 15 variants were made for industrial use. - Configuration: If it is mounted in a treadle cabinet, how many drawers does the cabinet have? Counting the center drawer, it could be 3, 5, or 7 drawers. Is there any fancy carving on the cabinet, or is it pretty plain? Often, the treadle cabinet is worth more than the machine itself! - Accessories: Does the machine have its instruction manual and full complement of accessories that came with it? Are there any additional accessories that were purchased later? Then there are other issues that can affect the selling price of a vintage sewing machine: - Location: If you live in an upscale U.S. neighborhood, probably very few buyers will be interested in an average condition old sewing machine. If you live in an area with a large number of lower income families, they might want an old, reliable sewing machine to actually sew on. - Furniture value: If your machine is in a nice wood cabinet, some may be interested in it purely for its decorative value. Others will shy away because they don't have room for a cabinet or it does not match their décor. Some buyers will only want a portable model they can stash away in a closet when not in use. - Shipping: If you are only willing to sell locally, your market will be limited. If your machine is small enough to ship, listing it on Ebay might bring a quicker sale and higher price. Speaking of Ebay, that is probably the best place to research prices for old sewing machines. Look for machines of the same model and age, in the same condition. Note the accessories that come with it and see how closely your item matches the Ebay item.

Is a Janome Jem Gold 660 better than a Janome Magnolia 7318?

NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT FROM JANOME BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can tell you right now don't buy a Janome Magnolia.

Defective right out of the box and only get excuses from the dealer and no help at all from Janome. Purchase Date: 10/29/2008

I was told the belt was too tight, GUESS WHAT IT ISN'T WORKING. Even the repair person said it didn't sound right when sewing.

This time I videotaped the issue so that I have proof.

After 2 hours of sewing, the machine either locks up or starts slamming inside (like the shaft or something) it then eats about a handful of bobbin thread.

You just have to totally stop sewing, like a cool down period or something.

My e-mails back and forth to Janome.

FROM JANOME

If the repair that was done did not fix the problem, please contact your

dealer. Your dealer can contact our Service Dept. regarding the

functioning of your machine. If necessary your dealer can send the

machine to our Service Dept. for repair. Janome does not accept

machines for repair directly from the consumer. It must be sent to us

by your dealer. Once a machine is sent to us, the Service Manager would

only make a decision to replace if it cannot be repaired.

Dealerships are independently owned and operated businesss. If you want

your dealer to replace the machine you purchased through them, you would

need to resolve that with the dealer.

Thank you for your inquiry,

Customer Relations

Janome America, Inc.

My reply to them:

Headed to Wal-mart to buy another Brother to finish my Christmas projects with.

Should have stuck with them, no problems there.

Dumping my Janome on Saturday (the only day a repair person is in) for who knows how long for a repair. Then will sell it on E-bay to some other sucker.

I am sure my little $269 purchase doesn't matter to Janome. I feel sure it will matter with a competitor.

Of course, customer relations is your department, but you aren't doing a very good job.

Have A Nice Day.

FROM JANOME CUSTOMER SUPPORT

As we stated in our previous email, you can request that your dealer send the machine to our Service Dept. for repair. A decision to replace a machine would only be made once the machine was sent here and determined by the Service Manager that it cannot be repaired.

Thank you for your inquiry,

Do fabrics that came from living sources shrink more in the wash than fabrics not made from living sources?

Yes, cotton, wool, silk and linen do shrink. This is mostly because the way the fibers are made into thread involves twisting them, and in the wash, the twists get tighter, causing the fabric to shrink.

Synthetic fabrics are made from continuous filaments, and therefore do not shrink. Some synthetic fabrics will wrinkle badly, causing the fabric to appear to shrink, because of the crinkling of the fabric.

How do you repair a broken embroidery hoop?

I would not suggest making a repair to a broken embroidery hoop. Since the purpose of the hoop is to hold fabric in a tight, stretched position, there is too much tension on the parts to expect a repair to work. You would have to be more specific about what material the hoop is made from to be more clear. Is it wood, plastic, metal? They aren't very expensive, buy a new one.

How do you make a ceiling of a room look like a bedouin tent top with a centrally gathered point?

To decorate your room like a tent, you will want to make sure you have purchased plenty of fabric. I would suggest buying four large size bedcovers from an import store, such as Pier 1 or World Market. Thread a colored string through the top hem of each of the bedcovers. Now take the ends of the strings that have been threaded through the hem side, and tie each of the strings to a large eye ring that you have attached to the center of the ceiling You can also string some tassels from the eye. Then attach a double stick upholstery tape along the opposite side of each of four, and tape along the ceiling at each of the four walls. Instead of upholstery tape, you could tie the corners to eye rings in the ceiling at each of the four walls (8 eye rings), plus one hook in the center point of each wall.
