500 yards of fabric to square feet?
To determine square feet you need two dimensions: length and width. If the fabric is 500 yards long, then it is 1,500 feet long (3 feet per yard). If the fabric is 3 feet wide (36"), then the total is 4,500 square feet, but if it is 5 feet wide (60") then the total is 7,500 square feet.
I always find it easier to iron on the bonding before you cut out the shapes. I simply put the amount of fabric I will need on the ironing board, iron the vliesofix onto the wrong side of the fabric, then cut the shapes out, peel off the backing paper, and lay the shapes onto the quilt or shirt you are ironing them onto, and iron again. Be sure you keep all fabric and backings smooth, so no folds or wrinkles get ironed in.
Are there varying Specifications for Singer 7470 sewing machines?
The real world usually lowers your ex-SPEC-tations. HAAAAHAHAHA! Okay, I'll stop and be good. Horrible pun anyway. Factory specifications are usually measured in laboratory environments paid for by the manufacturers themselves; therefore, the specifications are produced in an ideal environment unhampered by such inconveniences like "dust" and "needle-wear" and "humidity" and "the real world." More dependable specs can usually be found on consumer-oriented publications like Consumer Reports. Another great place to find real-world specs is online reviews of consumers who have actually bought and used the product.

Where is the on off switch on a Brother 230 Galaxie sewing machine?
It doesn't have one. A lot of sewing machines don't have on/off switches apart for working the light. The foot pedal usually disconnects the power when not pressed but this can not be relied on. Therefore you should never leave a sewing machine plugged in when not in use. Often the early models have a suppression capacitor in the foot pedal that can go short circuit making the machine run on its own.
