Shays' Rebellion

It proved how weak the Articles of Confederation were, and that there was need for a stronger central government.

When Yorkshire rose in rebellion agains William, consumes with anger he sent troops to the north to wipe out everything. His men torched houses and shops, destroyed crops, burnt land and butchered animals.

Shay's Rebellion proved that the U.S. government badly needed to reform the Articles of Confederation. The federal government was unable to finance enough troops just to combat a group of rebel farmers in western Massachusetts. One of the reasons the federal government was so weak was because they did not have the power to tax other states, which was thought to encourage the protection of every state's independence. But really, policies like these just rendered the federal government ineffective.

The rebellion prompted the federal government to reevaluate itself. Eventually, it was decided that the Articles of Confederation needed to be replaced and this led to the Constitution.

Daniel shay started the whiskey rebellion in which he stirred up farmers and peasents against the government because of the tax on whiskey. the rebellion was later crushed and the tax was repealed.

He didn't like the taxes and he thought he wasn't paid enough. He was a soldier in the war.

The Nika Riots took place in Constantinople in 532. There was a lot of unrest at the time because of high taxes and wars.

Politics in Constantinople was dominated by factions which were identified by the colors of liveries of chariot teams they supported. The most important were the Blues and the Greens. After races, they commonly rioted. When a number of people were killed in riots, the murderers were caught and sentenced to death. This led to more riots, and in the end, about half of Constantinople was burned down. Many thousands of people were killed, and the riots were put down with brutal force.

This rebellion caused people to realize that they needed a stronger government because they were unable to deal with Shay's Rebellion as successfully as they could have. The result of this rebellion was the creation of the Constitution in place of the Articles of Confederation.

Basically, the angry farmers who were rebelling posed a threat to all citizens. This raised more awareness to their debt situations. Wikipedia puts it best,

"Ultimately, the uprising was the climax of a series of events of the 1780s that convinced a powerful group of Americans that the national government needed to be stronger so that it could create uniform economic policies and protect property owners from infringements on their rights by local majorities."

People started to question whether state sovereignty was the best form of government for the country.

Daniel Shays rebelled against oppressive debt collection and tax policies in Massachusetts. He wanted to reform the government. He was angered by the economic policies and aggressive tax collecting.

Daniel Shays is mostly known for leading an army of farmers in Shays' Rebellion, which was a tax revolt against the state government of Massachusetts from 1786-1787, and a key event in the early history of the United States.

I think the people who were involved in Shays' Rebellion were Farmers who didn't want to pay taxes that they could not afford so they threw a riot! And The Federal Troops were also involved!

It frightened some leading Americans. They believed that a stronger central government would protect against popular unrest. In response, Congress asked the states to send delegates to a convention in Philadelphia in 1787. their task was to revise the Articles of Confederation.

It showed the weaknesses of the Article of Confederation when dealing with armed conflicts. The government didn't have the right to create a standing army, hence they were not prepared to deal with rebellions such as Shays Rebellion.

Shay's Rebellion showed just how dangerous it was to have a weak central government.

Shay's rebellion had a great influence on the public opinion. It was the clash between New England farmers and merchants that tested the precarious institutions of the new republic, threatened to get the "disunited states" into a civil war.
