Look for more information on the Ranger shotgun. I have a Ranger 16 ga Pump whch was my dad's gun. The model number is 102.25 and is found on the left side just above the trigger guard. Look to see if your weapon has a similar marking. This may help in finding info. i am pretty sure they are 3" You can shoot 2 and 3/4 in.shells in the 1100 3"mag but, the shot weight has to be at least an ounce and 1/4 for it to cycle {fire,eject and chamber the next shell} properly.

This serial number would indicate a gun made in 1904. To be sure that this is not an early gun, you can check the barrel. If the gun was made in 1904, the barrel would be stamped: BROWNING AUTOMATIC ARMS COMPANY It is probable that your gun is more modern. Check the gun for a letter above or preceding the 78xx number. '1929' is going to be a patent date, not a model number. Eastern Arms Co was not an actual manufacturer, it was a brand name used by Sears on guns they marketed, generally made by the Stevens Arms Co. Value is strictly based on its usability as a shooter, and single-barrel 16ga shotguns will generally sell for less than $100. 1929 is a model number marked on Stevens/Springfield shotguns.
