This gun was made in 1938. The cutts can hurt a guns value regardless of who installed it. The exception is if you have the auto-5 skeet model. Check the choke marking. The skeet model could be ordered with the beavertail forend which stands out. I've seen some nice 38 & 39 guns that have been close to that 98%, but they are not getting bids over $500-700. Unless the gun is the actual skeet model, then because of the cutts, the gun is considered un-original. Unfortuantely most shooters and many collectors shy away from the front trigger safety too. Cabelas currently has a minty skeet model up for sale and they are asking $1800.

There have been several variations of Janssen shotguns. Large gunmaking family in Belgium. J JANSSEN shotguns are typical hardware-store imports that top out at $250, but JANSSEN FRES (for example) can bring several times that.

Massachusetts Arms Company: Trade name used by J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company on firearms for Blish, Mizet and Silliman Hardware Company of Atchinson, KS. The name is also attributed to Crescent Firearms, but a single shot with a Chicopee Falls address is almost certainly a Stevens.

I assume it has a single non-selective trigger, beavertail forearm and a shallow vent rib. If so, that gun was made by Beretta and is similar to their GR series. It is worth $800 to $1,500 depending on condition and buyer.

I also have a Charles daly empire grade 20 gauge side by side, single non selective trigger, and extractor serial no. 746. my gun has 28" barrels and is choked IM/M or three stars and two stars. I have researched this gun for months and the markings that will tell the tell is the gun makers stamp. should be on the barrels. there should be an oval with a PB or VB if it is a Beretta or Berandilli respectively. it could be a Sabatti. there also should be markings for the manufacture date XXIII or VVIII etc. if its Beretta you can go to their web site. hope this helps, Please post what your marks are. Mine is not legitable. all I can see is half the oval and a B, valve will be determined by manufacture.

We'd need to know if it were single, double barrel, or pump, its age and condition. There are several good auction sites (gunbroker, auctionarms, armsamerica) that will have some for sale you can compare to.

There have been many variations on 'RICHARD.' If it is specifically RICHARD, it is almost certainly a Belgian-made hardware store gun made from 1880-1910.

Many manufacturers used the same receiver for different gauges. H&R, for example, used the same receiver in the Topper series for everything from .410 through 12ga. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Should be on the left side of the receiver toward the bottom edge over the trigger. These guns were made by Mossberg, and if yours was made before 1968 (only one slide bar) it may not have had a serial number as they were not required on domestic shotguns before the Gun Control Act was passed.

Chiavari is the town in Italy where it was made. The gun is a LAMES Model 801. Nice entry-level O/U, sells in the $700 range.
