It really depends on the ski. Rossignol makes a lot of good racing skis (not so good for powder), but they also make a few skis that are good for powder. If a pair of skis has twin tips, than it will almost always be good for powder. On the rossignol website there is a little meter for each ski that tells you some of the specs of the ski and what kind of conditions that ski is then made for.

What is the best color of goggle lenses for ski racing?

This depends on a number of factors.

For road biking on a bright summer day, a very dark polarized lens is best. These protect your eyes and reduce glare on the road.

For road biking in overcast or otherwise less-bright conditions, you may prefer to use a lighter lens. these are often available in yellow or red tints to provide enhanced contrast.

For mountain biking, I just use a clear lens since the trails where I normally ride are heavily forested with very dark areas. Many other riders use red or yellow lenses as described above.

What are skate and classic Nordic skiing?

Skate skiing usually involves shorter skis and longer poles than classic skiing (which has longer skis and shorter poles). In skating, a wider, flat, groomed track is preferable whereas a classic skier would use narrow tracks and could pretty easily go off the track and ski around in deeper snow. The techniques are also different. For skating, there are three general methods: V1, V2, and V2 alternate. V1 is generally used going up hills, where as the other two are more for flat or downhills, but all involve poling at the time or soon before one of your skis touches the ground and pushes off to let you glide. For classic skiing, the technique is different, and involves poling and gliding on opposite legs and keeping your weight over your hip for the best weight distribution.
