Can a CPAP machine be used during flu virus symptoms?
Assuming you are using it for obstructive sleep apnea, yes, and it may help by allowing deep breathing during sleep to aerate your lower lung lobes to make clearing the sputum easier. Use of guaifenesin (it is in Robitussin brand and generic versions of over the counter expectorant cough medicines and Mucinex) will help loosen secretions, too. Ask your pharmacist for recommendations.
If it is uncomfortable to use the CPAP machine, ask your health care professional if you should temporarily change the settings to make it still effective but more comfortable while your lungs and bronchial tubes are inflamed and irritated from the virus. Also contact them if your delivery system (full mask or nasal only) makes cough, sneezes, or runny nose a problem, there may be another delivery method that you could use during the worst of these symptoms. Keep the unit clean as you have been instructed for regular use.
If you are using the CPAP for reasons other than OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) then get advice from the ordering physician about its use during the flu in your individual situation.
[CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.]
What can you do to make yourself fall asleep faster?

Is it common to have trouble sleeping in the first trimester?
Very common. Can't sleep at night and all you wanna do is sleep during the day. It may subside for a while then look out no sleep near the end again. Your body is getting ready for sleepless nights once baby is born. Enjoy! Wierd dreams are very common too.
Why does your CPAP machine start beeping in the middle of the night?
Most CPAP machines have a feature built into them that beeps to let the user know there is an air leak. This can be something simple such as a mask that is not well seated or sealed. It could also be a tear in the hose that is leaking air. A kink in the hose that is preventing the air from passing may also cause this. Start there. If you continue to have problems, contact your therapy provider or physician to trouble shoot further causes.

Why do people sleep on their sides?
Snoring is caused when a flap of skin in the throat closes the windpipe. When a person breathes in and out, it makes that flap move. That makes noise. That is snoring. Try holding your lips together and slightly pushed out. Then breathe out. If you make a noise, that is the same principle. When some people turn on their side, that flap of skin falls out of the way and the person breathes normally. Some people require surgery to reduce the size of that skin. Others require c-pap machines to blow air in their throats to keep them from snoring. Some people have their breathing muscles get so exhausted from trying to push that flap of skin aside that they stop breathing. Their snoring kills them.
Can you sue a dr if you wake up during surgery?
Anaesthesia awareness. It is a very very rare occurrence.

What does it mean when you wake up and cant breath?
You might be suffering from sleep apnea. It could be obstructive or central sleepapnea. When the airway is blocked, or when the lungs do not inhale as they are to do involuntarily, carbon dioxide builds up in the blood and a trigger goes off in the brain to awaken the body so it will breathe to get the needed oxygen. This might explain trying to wake up, not being able to move, and it is hard to breathe. This can be a very serious health issue.
Waking up this way is very hard on the heart. Reports link sleep apnea to stroke and heart attacks. The disruption to the quality of your sleep and the lack of oxygen to the body and mind can affect concentration, cause memory loss, visual impairment, fatigue, depression, muscle breakdown, etc. People who are tired from sleep apnea are more likely to be in automobile accidents.
A sign of sleep apnea is snoring. Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by the tissue in the throat relaxing and blocking the airway. Having a small airway and being over weight can contribute to the severity. Central sleep apnea is basically the lungs forget to breathe. For example, this may occur during the REM stage of sleep when the body is very relaxed and the mind is dreaming.
See your GP or a neurologist and schedule a sleep study. See if the cost of studies are covered by health insurance. A continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine can address obstructive sleep apnea and to an extent central sleep apnea. There are varying machines available to address the problem.
When I was younger, I used to experience what you described and thought it was just night terrors. The severe health complications that occurred in my thirties eventually lead to the cause being sleep apnea.
Absolutely! My dog even goes into rem sleep every night. I love watching his eyes and paws twitch and his lips curl and sometimes i can even hear him huff and growl. It is truly hilarious. He looks like hes chasing something. I know it seems like something in Sims or cartoons but it really happens.

Can apnea be caused by smoking?
Obstructive sleep apnea can have a relationship to smoking, since the irritation can further inflame and enlarge tissue in the throat and contribute to the degree of obstruction. Usually in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) there is a combination of problems that add up to cause the periods of absence of breathing (apnea) due to an airway obstruction. Some of those are:
being overweight and sleeping on your back, having large tonsils and other tissues in the mouth and throat (such as the uvula and soft palate), sometimes infection of throat, muscular relaxation of the tongue and throat during sleeping especially when on back, and obstructions due to nasal tissue thickening caused by smoking, colds, or allergies.
There are neurological causes of sleep apnea that are not related to smoking, however. This different type of sleep apnea called Central sleep apnea (CSA) is caused by a problem within the central nervous system (CNS) that prevents the proper brain signals from getting to the respiratory system or from being recognized by the respiratory system to enable regular breathing. Some such CNS problems that can cause periods of apnea are injury to brain stem, Cerebrovascular Accidents (CVA or "stroke"), or infectious or other disorders and diseases of the brain or respiratory system.
______
In the study of the relationship the conclusion was: "CONCLUSIONS: In our patient population, smoking is not an independent risk factor for sleep apnea after adjusting for other confounding variables." Although they did suggest that it can worsen apnea and that there is a relationship for people with severe apnea. So, can it cause apnea? It appears not to be a contributing factor.
Interestingly, smoking is a significant factor for micro-arousals (not necessarily respiratory related) and so affects sleep in other ways.
So, I guess if you want a good night's sleep, stop smoking.

What condition is restless legs syndrome associated with?
Generally several different thing can cause (RLS) restless leg syndrome. It can range from Diabetic Neuropathy from type 1 diabetics, poor circulation. Also a lot of HemoDialysis patients get RLS.....Hope this was helpfully The above poster gave good advice, but on a less scary thought restless leg syndrome is caused by the lack of Potassium in your body. My husband use to suffer from it. He went to a Homeopathic doctor who put him on pills with Potassium and Magnesium (Magnesium is needed to make the Potassium absorb in your body.) It took a few months, but it worked. I have a girlfriend that is extremely high strung and when nervous (she never sits still) she will bob her leg up and down constantly or stretch her legs. It is a good idea to also have your thyroid check out (T3/T4 blood test.)
What is the prognosis for narcolepsy?
The combination of behavioral changes, ventilation assistance, drug therapy, and surgery allow most people with sleep apnea to be treated successfully, although it may take some time to determine the most effective and least intrusive treatment.
Explain why you have trouble falling asleep after drinking several cups of hot cocoa?
The answer is simple: caffeine. The amount of caffeine in cocoa is not significant in comparison to, let's say, coffee, but it's still there. And, it will only pile up after several cups.
The solution: limit the amount of cocoa you drink before sleep or look for a caffeine-free cocoa. You should be fine. ☺
